Question:

Why have i been overtaxed for taking holiday?

I get paid weekly and today i received two weeks wages (I get paid weekly on Fridays) to find that i have lost £33.00?

My tax code has not changed and i have worked my normal hours. Would receiving two weeks wages in one go affect the tax calculation?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you :)

  1. Recieving it all in one go shouldn't affect the calculation. For example, 10% of £60 is equal to 10% of £30 + 10% of £30.

  2. This will adjust on your next pay day. PAYE is calculated on a cumulative basis, so on this payday, you had a much higher rate of pay. Now you will miss a payday, and things will get back to normal on your next wage payment, and you will either pay less tax, or get a rebate, depending on pay levels.

  3. Seems odd if you go on holiday you stop getting paid. Surely you should have got a pay packet on the Friday you were away.So when you returned you should have got two pay packets. Just check with your accounts people.

  4. It depends on your Tax Code.  If it ends "W1" then getting paid 2 weeks in one will affect your pay.  You won't get get your tax allowance for the week you were away.  Talk to your tax office and get a permanent tax code.
