  1. USB needs a physical connection to a computer. Thus, if there are no USB device connected to your computer, then probably you recently installed an application which has the USB Phone feature, such as Skype http://www.usbphoneworld.com/scp.html or Dlink http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=466

If there are USB [sometimes cordless] devices nearby then probably it is connecting to your computer, but if you are "far from the madding crowd" of computers, there is no need to be alarmed!

If you are using Windows XP, verify in the Add/Remove Programs if there is an installed USB Phone among the list of programs. If you yourself did not install this application, then somebody else who has access to your computer probably did. Un-installing the application would discontinue these pop-up messages.
