Why have i never seen a pigeon in a tree, how about a seagull in a tree?

why don't pigeons go land iin trees.

  1. You're not looking hard enough because where I live I see pigeons in trees all the time.  Do you live in the city?


  2. In the wild pigeons don't land in trees because they were birds that lived in cliffs before they were domesticated. They have never lost that part of their wild beginning. In a loft (pigeon house) with a mixture of types of perches they will take a flat shelf perch over a round dowel sticking out from the wall.

    Another reason is the birds of prey can catch them while they are in a tree because they can't

    see 360 degrees around them Up on a building they might not be able to see all around but they know that nothing is going to get them from the building side. Sitting still will get them caught. A tree prevents them from a quick getaway. I have seen seagulls in trees up in the Chicago area.
