According to wikipedia the speed records are as follows

Land: October 15, 1997 - ThrustSSC

Air (manned): July 28, 1976 - SR-71 Blackbird

Watercraft: 8 October 1978 - Spirit of Australia

All of these records are done in the 20th century, why has nobody broken or attemped to break these records.

  1. Just give it time, some one will come along and attempt it.

  2. well because the more times the record is broken the harder it becomes to break.

Perhaps people just value their life more in 21st century and wont risk it..

or probably something to do with life insurance and health and saftey regulations and risk assesments that goverment inists on making it impossible to do anything remotivley exciting.

  3. bc ppl have been failling and sum died

  4. Maybe because its harder.

  5. Because they might break their necks under the velocity..

  6. Have you SEEN gas prices these days??

  7. First of all to break the speed records for air and watercraft would require the breaking of several laws regarding air and water safety, you would need a large open and straight area with no traffic, good luck finding that in the air, though such areas are present in the water any vehicle that can go faster than police or military speed boats would be sunk  or confiscated by the aforementioned organizations. I'm sure that there have been more speed record attempts but that results of those tests are either classified, or deadly or both.
