I own a 1994 ford taurus and i recently had a flat. Upon further inspection i noticed severe inside tire wear right down to the steel belt. The wear is consistent on both rear tires, but only on the inside of tire {approx 2-3inches}(can hardly see wear unless get right under there and look). My question is what should i fix? I called one tire shop they said struts, i asked a buddy of mine he thinks rear allignment(although i never heard of rear alignment). So hear i sit wondering if i should buy used tire or new. Dont want to put new tires on just to have it happen again. Pleae help Me!!!!!! Thanks

  1. on front weal drives all 4 tires need aligned and you probable never rotated your tires if there is no rotations you get like bumps on the inside of your tires and that could cause a roaring nose i recommend getting 4 new tires right away and a 4 weal alignment and rotate your tires every 6 thousand miles or every other oil change since you should be changing your oil every 3 thousand miles

  2. Most probably unbalanced or unalighned or another kind of of defect on the car... suspension... depends...

  3. First you need to deal with safety... tires worn down to the belts are not safe for you or others also on the road with you.  Take your car to a reputable mechanic and find out what the problem(s) is/are.  If its more than you want to spend then scrap the car or put different tires on it.  It also helps immensely to rotate your cars tires every 5-6000 miles.

  4. The car is out of alignment.  The rear wheels are not pointing straight ahead.  One or both are pointed outward from the car.  You may have to replace that goofy metal thing that is in place of the axle.  Take it to an alignment shop asap because your new tires are going to look like these tire in less than 5000 miles.

On front wheel drive cars the rear axle is not solid.  The rear wheels are mounted on spindles like the the front.  Some times they use McPherson struts like the front sometimes they use a flexible metal frame in place of a solid axle supported on traditional springs and shocks.  If your car has the frame type it is bent from some kind of impact.  If it is the strut type there is a tow in adjustment just like the front.

P.S. your gas milage will go up too.

  5. The tires are unbalance and unaligned. Its worth the $60 to correct.

  6. Ok my father had this same problem. He Has A BMW M3. Yes it an amazing car but the tires were wearing on the inside a lot more than normal. so he bought some new tires at town fair tire and they did the free alignment thing. and it was off severly. so they fixed it and now he no longer has that problem. also if you have wider tires in the back then the front you should get some tires with anti-cupping. Sumitomo makes some great tires that last forever and they are pretty cheap. well good luck with your car and i hope this helped you out. :)
