  1. Because they are not the only super-skilled team on earth, as many kiwis use to think...

  2. we got the talents, skills, pace, everything, but we seem to fail when it counts..

  3. They can't handle the pressure, and they underestimate every team they play. They ALWAYS think they're better than everyone, which may be true, but they think they dont have to put any effort in because of this

  4. I think they just crack under pressor and bad luck

  5. We relax too much in those knockout games I think,we need to play with the same intensity we do every other match.

  6. The NH are used to, and far more mentally prepared for knock out - cup competitions..and can play cup rugby.

  7. Yeah I think it is all in the head. I LOVE the AB's and a lot of other people do also. But I think to always be the favourite - well it must eventually get to you - like you must always feel so much more pressure then everyone else.

And I guess in th RWC the most important rugby competition ever, that added pressure would be heightened and i guess it just takes its toll!

BRING ON RWC 2011  - winning it @ home would be amazing!

  8. All it needed was one frickin drop goal to beat France in 2007 and no other team in the World Cup was given days off to sun themselves on the beach and party it up in the middle of the campaign...such arrogance!

  9. Who cares?

NZ still kicks **** and has never been beaten by oh so many nations it's just not funny. All this nonsense about pressure is a joke - try defending unbeaten records, or for example this weekend - RSA, who haven't beaten NZ at home for over ten years - that's pressure to perform. Many nations have never beaten RSA - infact, the only team they played at the 2007  WC who had ever beaten them was England!

Took the boys from Brazil  seven attempts to win their second WC - only fools would now call them chokers.

In time, a pattern of NZ dominance will be reflected in WC data.

The new way teams will qualify for the pools, and the introduction of ELVs will only hasten a pattern of NZ dominance.

  10. I was on a train going down to Wellington  last year and I saw a huge billboard with these words "All Blacks...World Champions"......and in small letters under was these words.."between world cups"...... I have also stood back and asked myself why is it that they struggle so - seeing they are such a classy outfit.  The billboard words seems to plague my mind...maybe there is some truth in it....   When I look back just at the last RWC it was a forgone conclusion that the RWC was in the bag...all the AB's were to do was to turn up.. is this not the fault ... the root of the problem??? This mind set has plagued the AB's...where the public and the players have this belief that they have it in the bag when the ball has not even been kicked yet. I think we as kiwis need to have a paradigm shift and rather make some other team the team to beat, become the underdog and be humble...then I suppose we will win the darn RWC.

  11. Too many individual specialist players, impact players. Not working as a unit/ team. Heros in their own back yard, cannot cut the pace internationally. Too much beer off the park doesnt help either. Boys away from home problem, not focused on their actual task, and forget they are representing NZ.

  12. Give it a rest ! Blaa Blaa Blaa. Try an original question and get over it. Old news mate, this weekend is where it's at, live in the present and get on with it. I think you lot that give the All Blacks c**p at every chance might as well jump on that plane to Aussie with all the rest of those deserters and leave this great place to us.

  13. Mediocrity is in the Kiwi physique, it is not OK to just participate, it IS, all about winning at all costs, regardless of how the game is played. No-one remembers the losing team that played with flair, everyone remembers the winners lifting the Web Ellis trophy!!

  14. Nick c summed it up.

Personally,i find the all backs back play boring compared to years gone by.Dan carters comment after the Ireland game=

you really notice the opposition in your face under the old rules.

Thats because you are running a flat backline danny boy.The new elvs put the opposition back the 5 meters the way they  would be ,if the abs ran onto the ball from depth and not from a standing start as they do now.As a result, the ball doesnt get to the wings under the old laws(set plays). They are much easier to tackle from a standing start, rather than a player running onto the ball at pace and from angles. Wayne smith has screwed up our aggressive running onto the ball, which is what excites the public = line breaks. If you compare now to the past. You would find both Auckland and the abs would have had more line breaks in the past in the backs. Now defences rush up,we have less room and easier to tackle.Sorry, but i have fallen asleep watching the abs of late. What about forwards running onto the ball full pelt off rucks and mauls like fitzy did?you dont see that anymore, all this pick and go.The elv rule for the backs essentially gives the backs back that 5 metres they used to make for themselves before when standing deep. They also had time to deceive the opposition, while running up to defend.

The abs need an "a" team and a "b" team, try to keep a consistent "a"team and take players from the "b"team when "a" team players are injured. That is school boy common sense. We would have had a team that could have kept a cool head, rather than panic like we did.Better luck next time boys. The players need to gel and know each others game really well as it is really tested when the pressure comes on.I dont feel optimistic against the South Africans.

  15. Winning most games and not doing well in the World Cup must not be accepted. What the World Cup does, is test not only the skills of the teams involved but the mental strength of teams as well as individual players.

This is a problem area for the All Blacks, theyre just not mentally in it. I don't mean this as a criticism, you have to WIN when it matters.

When the pressure is on, the All Blacks are always the "favourites" to win any match, which is probably not a good thing for the team as when it comes to crunch time, they falter.

  16. i think consitency in the selection of squads made a major impact in the final result. grahem henry can't seem to make up his mind on the starting 15... the players are not always playing together and when it counts they cannot really on just one person they need to really on each and everyman, and unfortunately i think henry has taken that away from them with the squad selection...they do not trust the man next to them as they have not played enough with him...

henry shouldn't b the coach! deans should b and i'm a bok supporter... how the h**l can u not emply someone who has one the super 14 seven bloody times!!!

  17. its true new zealand are pretty good, but you can only be the best if you succeed every time you play, under all kinds of pressures, new zealand cant be the best because  they choke every time something big comes up.

so nobdy can say new zealand are the best, cause evidence proves other wise.

    COME ON BOKKES THIS SATURDAY!!!!

  18. Its because New Zealand doesn't teach its rugby players how to play knockout rugby. The European teams have the Heineken Cup every year so the players are well versed in how to play that particular brand of football. Also as a country we put way to much pressure on the blacks, the All Blacks are the only international team to have a worse win percentage at home than away, why? because they like getting away from the pressure cooker environment and relax unfortunately it doesn't relate to world cups away from home cause the pressure starts two years before hand.

  19. i think they try and play safe and conserative rugby from the quarter finals onwards, who dares wins?go for more attacking options with less pick and go from the forwards,i hate that kind of play and after so many sets inevitably they turn the ball over.spin it!!!! also dont go for so many shots at goal early on ,keep the heat on by attacking off penalty lineouts.should i go there, how much time do you need to take a droppy?could of won us that........ game and probably the world cup.gets some mongrel and a bit of pride back in the jumper.

  20. In '91, they were too old & the Ausies were better.

In '95, they were sick - unlucky.

France played well in the second half in '99, but  the All Blacks still shouldn't have fallen apart so badly.

The best team won in 2003 - they'd proved they were the best over the couple of years leading into it.

The ref contributed last year as did the reconditioning - lack of match play.

  21. the All Blacks have all the talent in the world, in fact out of all the countries who have played the game New Zealand has the best player pool (even if they're not originally from the country) in the world and have the most depth in regards to player positions than any were else.... a 4th string All Black side could still kick serious butt, over the years the AB's have produced the most amazing players, athletically... and no other country has had more of an affect on the game than the guys who play for this team.. so its not a matter of whether we have the talent... thats a no-brainer... the answer to your question is simply because ......................................

WE CHOKE! sad to say but thats the bottom line. Bring on 2011. Bring back Spencer to :)

    peace

  22. because leading up to the world cup, they were No1 in the rankings,  and who did they get to play in the pool matches, to many easy games they could have won blindfolded .they need tough matches. Prior to the wold cup they were unbeaten in every-game they played pretty much.

They are certainly not lacking talent,  but there could be a lack of self belief so much is expected of them every time they set foot on the Rugby field by the NZ Fans.

Anyway GO THE ABs for saturday night.

  23. Because they choke when they get out of newzealand they get to cocky that they will win and drop the ball(excuse the pun) when it counts.  Even if they win it in 4 years time I don't feel it counts as they can only win on home soil,

  24. Basically the All Blacks are the best team in the world between every world cup, but when it comes to the world cup, something just happens. There is a mental thing now and let's just say I would not want to be playing for the All Blacks in 2011, the pressure they're going to be under is unbelievable.

  25. I laugh at those who say the All Blacks can't be the best because they don't win at everything they do. If thats the case:

South Africa aren't the best because they haven't won in NZ for 10 years, have only won a couple of Tri-Nations in over a decade and I think I recall them being knocked out in a world cup quater final too.

Australia can't be the best because they too have only won a couple of Tri-Nations, haven't had the Bledisloe Cup in years.

England can't be the best because they haven't won a grandslam or 6 Nations in ages and get smashed whenever the come south of the equator.

France certainly aren't the best because they are one hit wonders that play there best games against the All Blacks every now and then but then proceed to lose to everyone else.

Wales/Ireland dito to the English. Can't win down south.

So we are saying nobody is the best, just some a better than others at different times. I'd still rather support the All Blacks though because they win more than the rest.

  26. They have tended to choke on the important games.  With the weight of the entire nation on their back it unsurprising.  What is surprising is that so far, no player or staff have been lynched on returning to NZ.

  27. As a Bok fan living in NZ I think it as as simple as they are SO good and , due to Public expectation , SO passionate, through out the intervening years that  they walk thru lesser teams with ease , using a free flowing game that doesn't work when up against the top 2 or 3 in the World Cup -that are also equally passionate for once "as it is a World Cup " . They haven't practised the defend , defend and "take no risk" policy it takes to win a world cup and this leads to a bit of panic when the free flow doesn't work .

The Australians don't have the depth and The Boks are hamstrung during the middle years by affirmative Black-tion.

The AB's remain the yardstick and are No1 in "consistently " being the best in the world ,  -  so I hope the Boks win this weekend .

One Final note -In 1995 Reuben Kruger scored a try in any fair rugby player's mind . Look at the re-plays .

  28. I hate to say it but we no longer have truly rounded players. They are sports stars and that’s it. In 1987 David Kick (playing Capitan) led a team that could have won any style of rugby, expansive, tight etc. He is CEO of Fairfax Media, a Rhodes Scholar and has a medical degree. Do you think we will be able to say as much about Jimmy Cowan in 20 years??

While other campaigns we had factors go against us –

    91 – Aussie were better

95 - Food poising and a forward pass ruling when Jonah was in the clear (marginal at best)

99, 03 – have been covered by others who have commented

We simply do not have players these days with the mental fortitude to step back and assess the situation then alter the game as they go. Fact is, if you don’t realise that in 40min of rugby you haven’t had a penalty go your way then are you really the best person to be making decisions on the field?

We all know that we have the best players in terms of talent and skill, with inspirational leadership from Capitan and senior players, however, It would be nice to see them develop off the field a bit more, not just playing rugby but actually working outside of the sport, (industry and business) then maybe, when they are playing and in situations that are new, difficult and challenging; they can work from outside the box, and draw on more experience then just rugby in a professional era.

  29. Because they're the best CHOKERS in the world.

Four more years cuzzy bro's, four more years

In their defence though, they do play a much more attractive brand of rugby than the northern hemisphere teams, and it was a real pity they got knocked out of RWC 07 so early.

  30. Because we over train players.  We train to many talented players to structure, we train the natural instinct out of players, we train aggression out of them and we make robots.  Every world cup final we've lost it's alway looked like they never knew what to do when Plan A never worked.  I'm not saying that throwing the ball around like headless chickens will win but what I am saying is trying it with 5 odd minutes is a bit late.  Its simple they need to play good solid rugby off the platform that there forwards are building off them.  All of last season I saw the AB's running the ball at teams from all area's, come the world cup and it was penalty shots instead of putting the ball into the corner and driving.  If they want to play a brand off football thats good but they must use it naturally and back themselves, they're the All Blacks talent, speed, skill and fitness is never the issue, its there mind sets which is influenced alot by the coaching staff, not all but the game plan is set before they take the field.

  31. in 1995 the abs were food poisoned in the 1999 according to Johna's book the abs were divided - caused by John Hart favouring players especially the aucklanders also the older senior players in the team i.e Fitzy, Jones, Brooke tried to run the team their own way and had no respect for the younger guys or captain Taine Randall and didn't listen to a word he said. In this semi he also played a lot of players out of position i.e playing Cullen at center. in 2003 they didn't pick Andrew merhtens even Carlos Spencer was quoted as saying in an interview if Merhts was there they would have won because it was his type of game. In 2007 it was the coaches being naive with team selections they went with a 5-2(depends on how you class halfback) split on the bench when Carter was way out of form and slightly injured MacDonald only lasted 5 minutes in the round robin game before coming off, mills had a strained hamstring Evans was carrying a leg strain(he was on the bench) so it only left one fit back and Aaron mauger a big game specialist wasn't even in the team overlooked for bumbling toeava ???? who consistantly showed he was out of his depth. It just shows what a brilliant coach Henry is, he talked about building depth and then picked a team full of injured players and players who weren't up to scratch. He then blamed Mccaw for not going for a drop goal who was only protecting Luke Maccallister because he wasn't confident on kicking one. So the common thread in these world cups is the coaches and their attitudes and failure to select the best players.... NOW Henry is doing it all AGAIN !!!
