Question:

Why haven't the Twins called up Liriano?

Francisco Liriano has been dominating in AAA ball for the past month and a half, yet the Twins haven't called him up. He would be a great addition to the staff for a late season surge to the top of the AL central. Livan Hernandez could be moved to the bullpen so the Twins wouldn't lose out on his leadership. It seems like a no brainer to me. Are there behind the scenes things going on that I don't know about that are preventing this from happening?

  1. cuz they know if they called him up he would ruin their chances of falling short every year

  2. they are too cheap

  3. They don't need him yet. Think about this:

They'll for sure call him up in the "September call-ups"

Once he gets called up the scouting reports will probably be weak. Hitters wont know how he works quite yet.

The Twins are doing well right now though and obviously the managers and owner feel no need for him to come up yet.

  4. its not a performance thing its a money thing..if he stays down there, they dont have to pay him as much. simple as that, and since he was injured, they make the call on whether or not they think he is ready to play

if they keep him down in the minors, he cant get arbitration---more money in the clubs pocket

  5. I think the Twins are trying to hold out one decent pitcher until after the trading deadline.  Plus as I understand it, if they hold him down there long enough he won't be eligible for arbitration by the end of the season (so he won't get more money from the team).

  6. AAA is very different from the Bigs. They don't want to rush him in and get him injured. When they have the spot in the rotation to put him in they will put him in. Right now they are doing well without him. What if he was to get injured again, that would be very disappointing. He is a mature youngster, his heat settles in the mid-90's and he combines it with a strong change-up and curveball. Has great command. Can dominate leftt bats. I think he can help them to the Title. Why would you move Hernandez to the bullpen he is like the best pitcher in the rotation and could use him for six innings a start.

  7. They are keeping him down their so he is not a free agent next year.

  8. No idea but he's said he wants to be called up soon or be traded...It's more about money like the other guys said.

  9. They haven't had the need for another starting pitcher. At the moment, all the starters have been doing well, so there's no spot for him to fill.
