Why haven't constellation's such as the zodiac horoscopes star constellations and others have never burnt out? They have been around for thousands of years and have never begun to fade out? I'm just curious as to why.

  1. some of them may have already burnt out a long time ago but being millions of light years away we will never see it in our lifetime.

  2. Constellations are just the patterns humans see in the random arrangement of stars in our night sky.

Stars can live a long time - the largest and hottest stars live maybe 5 - 10 million years, and stars like our sun live about 10 billion years.

A few thousand years is nothing in the lifetime of a star.

  3. Because they are comprised of stars and stars last for millions, billions and, in some cases, trillions of years.

10,000 years is nothing compared to a star's longevity.

  4. Stars live a long time, depending on their mass. The least massive ones are projected to live for trillions of years. The medium ones live for billions of years and the most massive ones live for just millions of years. Millions of years is still longer than the history of our civilization, so we haven't seen the constellations burn out.

The stars also move in the sky due to the sun's movement and the stars' own movements on their orbits around the center of the galaxy. We've noticed a bit of change in position especially with stars like the nearby Barnard's star, but not enough to greatly distort the constellations yet.
