  1. Hi Steve,

That's easy. The Government spend a lot of time telling us how good they're doing based on GNP (Gross product or something).

Now then, if they made it lawful to fit solar panels then house prices would be increased and sales would drop thereby inflicting serious impact to the housing market and the GNP.

This is all to do with Blair's 'targets'

PS. What other reason is there for not doing so?

  2. Most people in the UK can't afford new houses these days anyway.  You'd have to fit existing houses with solar panels and the taxpayer would have to support it as low income families and pensioners wouldn't be able to do it themselves.  Gonna be expensive.

  3. Probably the main reason is that they are so inefficient.

Incidentally, did you know that it takes more energy to make a solar panel than it will ever give you back in it's lifetime?

  4. It's just the added expense and maintenance, but if fuel prices continue to rise, it will someday become commonplace.

  5. If the level of global warming experienced in the London (UK) area this summer is anything to go by it would have been a complete waste of money. I understand that the semi-conductor elements of solar panels need replacing every 10-15 years, long before they have generated enough electricity from the sun's energy to pay for their installation costs.

Never mind, the likes of Red Ken used it for his car hating policies, and dear Gordon with Alastair's help is introducing stealth taxation using global warming as an excuse.

  6. Because they are not very good that's why.

They don't generate enough heat for our climate, the best you get is some luke warm water.
