Okay, so I know this question might be a little weird or creepy and I completely understand. My kitten, Simba, died two nights ago. He was only 11 weeks and I don't know why it happened.

He was up to date on his shots. When I first got him he was eating fine. I mean he wouldn't eeat as much as a normal kitten would have but I looked past it and hoped that he had a tummy ach or something. He slept a lot. I've had a lot of kittens in my past and I know that kittens are the most energetic things in the world, lol. It seemed like Simba was always sleeping though. The day he died I noticed something really strange.

Simba would usually lay on my keyboard while I was on the computer or he'd sit on my books while I was doing my homework, I would move him but he'd always end right back up on my books or computer. The day he died though, he wasn't really moving. And when he slept he was sleeping with his eyes open. In my town, we don't have an emergency animal clinic but a friend of mine was going to take Simba to the vet the next day, well...looks like it was too late. He was so skinny. I could feel every bone in his body. It was the scariest thing in the world. He couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom. I had to put him in the litterbox myself and when I set him down he just fell over and laid down while using the bathroom.

I know I should have taken him to the vet to find the cause out, but it was so late at night. It happened at 1253 AM on August 26th. My dad and I burried him in my backyard. I miss him more than anything in the world. I didn't have him for that long but it was love at first sight (even though he did get on my nerves sometimes).

  1. my cat Simba just died 3 months ago!  i had him since i was 5! i miss him so much and i know exactly how you feel.  just make sure you dont blame yourself. theres nothing you could have done. he was lucky to have you. he might of had a stroke or something. but i know how hard it is to lose a pet. but maybe your simba met my simba in heaven. idk if u believe in heaven, but if u do you will see him again someday except there you will never have to let him go. but theres really no way to know how he died just from what your saying. the only way you would have been able to find out was by taking his body to the vet after he died and they would find out. but dont worry how it might just make u more upset. just remember you gave him a great life and had someone in his life that loved him. not many cats get to have someone that really loves them. and no other cat wil ever replace your cat simba. but later on in life you will get more cats that you will love, but youll always remember simba. im really sorry i know how u feel trust me :(

  2. Chances are he was sick before the shots or the infection came with the administration of the shot.  Didn't you notice something weird before the day the cat died?  It usually doesn't happen suddenly with all of the symptoms you described.  But if it will make you feel better I will tell you about a friend of mine who had her cats for 14 and 9 years.  Tangelo (tan-jello) died a few months ago with no warning what-so-ever.  He was the younger of the two cats. My friend woke to a loud siren type sound and turned on the light at 4 am to see that her cat was salivating white gunk and running crazy like he was blind.  When she tried to stop him he attacked her and acted as if he had no idea who she was or where they were. This devastated her. So she called me at 4:20 am. The only advice I could give her was to take it to the Emergency animal hospital.  She waited until the vet opened at 7 am with the cat finally in a pet taxi but still wailing like a siren. The vet told her that the cat had a seizure or series of seizures that did not kill him but affected his mind.  Of course they had to put him down.

The vet advised her to keep an eye on the other cat for a week or so because if it was an outside source that affected the cat that way the other may be suseptible too.

Pertaining to your situation. Maybe the cat got into something that was poisonous for it and injested it. There really is no way of telling at this stage.

I hope you feel better soon.

  3. it's hard to say what happened.  It would have been easier to diagnose if you would have brought him to a vet at the onset of symptoms days before he died.

  4. I'm sorry to say that I don't have a sure answer for you, but this just happened to me last week.  My kitty died in less than a day and a half of showing symptoms.  The evening of the first day she threw up once but seemed immediately better and was super friendly/playful still.  The second day I watched her eat and drink, less than usual, but I thought I'd watched her long enough for her to have kept it down too.  Later in the evening she showed signs of feeling icky, she was lethargic but purring and happy to be around me.  We took a nap together for about 3 hours.  Woke up around 8pm, and she was sleepy but in a good mood, so I thought taking her to the vet in the morning if she didn't improve would be fine.  She was still jumping up on my dresser and cuddling so I thought there was no way her health could deteriorate that much by morning.  I've had other sick kitties and it was always pretty obvious when they needed emergency medical care.  I found her dead in the early morning, about 5am, when I was looking to check up on her.

I researched a bit and didn't find anything that narrowed her case down to one thing.  Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I know what you're going through.  We should have had another 12+ years with our babies. =[   Best kitten I ever met...

  5. I'm sorry to hear Simba passed away.

It sounds like he died of starvation, and that the starvation was caused by some underlying factor like a disease. Only a vet could hope to tell you what exactly though.

It's so important to be able to get an animal to a vet at the first sign of illness. So when you saw he was sleeping a lot, not eating and getting skinny, that would have been a good time to take him.

I had a cat called simba - he was about 12 when he passed away last year. Best cat I've ever had.

    Sorry for your loss

  6. OMG I am Sooo sorry, I can actually say I honestly know how you feel.  It hurts alot, its heart aching, you wont be able to sleep for days, i know what its like waking up at 5 am sweating from having nightmares then waking up reality hits you like a ton of bricks.

I have some advice for you DO NOT listen to those people who tell you to read rainbow bridge poems, they do NOT help At ALL they just remind you of your pet and bring you down alot more.

I had a ferret named Noodles, I had him all threwout high school, he was my best friend my first pet too.  me and him would go everywhere together to parties, on wild goose chases taking busses and subways to random peoples houses, he was always by my side

then one day when i came back from canada to my home in uruguay i noticed he was sickly skinny, nobody knew what happened to him, still i fought for him, i spent over 5 thousand dollars on him taking him to the best vet in all of uruguay, buying him the most expensive surgeries, having tubes in him removing feicies and filling him in with food and water because he couldnt eat or drink, everything he ate he would throw up even his medication, nothing helped, he just got worst and worst and i remember how much i suffered over him in that period of time i remember i went to mcdonalds ordered food and i end up crying over my food and not eating it losing my apetite and crying alone in front of the whole restaurant, yes it Sucked, its going to hurt you like a ***** at first.

He then got better all of the sudden and thats when i decided to take a trip to my cousins to relax and celebrate that he was going to be ok..

anyway when i got back home from the small vacation i took my parents informed me he had passed, and boy i still even cry to this day.

what helped me was to keep a piece of his tail in the freezer so in 15 years i can clone him and have him again.  this sept 3rd is his 1 year since he died.  perhaps think about keeping a piece of him perhaps the idea of one day again having him in the future will make you feel better about his death, it made me feel better and not as sad, just save a piece of him you never know what the future will bring.. this is if you really really are crazy nuts about him.

    Hope my advice was useful

blessed be and may your cat Simba rest in peace

Becky (proud owner of a cat named Ally, if he ever died i would die too)

IF YOU FEEL you need to talk to somebody about Simba, email me at rachylittlesoldier@hotmail.com or add me to msn now, i would be glad to talk and help

  7. Animals are like babies, its natural that they push your buttons sometimes. It sounds like he was just the runt & he became hypoglycemic. I had a kitten die of that a couple years ago =/. When they have trouble eating they lack sugar so they lose a lot of weight & they're almost like putty, you can put them anywhere & they'd just stay. I took my little girl Sophie to the vet & they put her on an I.V. They told me I had to feed her every 2 1/2 hours EXACTLY. I had alarms set & I woke up about 15 minutes past my 2 1/2 hour set & she had already gone into a hypoglycemic state again. Back to the vets she went at the crack of dawn & the I.V. didn't do anything, she passed. They're really vulnerable when they're young. Don't blame yourself, I know I did. Be happy Simba found you, I'm sure he was still a happy little baby. Next time you get a kitty though, just be more cautious, if you have a feeling somethings wrong, don't wait.
