Why he had waited for so long?

I have a best friend back in high school that I really fall in love with all these years. He knows that I'm falling for him but he said that he would rather keep the friendship. It hurts but I agree he is right! More than ten years had passed with once in a blue communication to each other. I thought I have moved on when I decided to get married. However, just last month we spent ten days together to talk things about us and my marriage. (FYI: my marriage is going down hill!) However, we both admit to each other that we have feelings and think that this is the right time for us to be together. We did the thing that we never did before and we are both happy. But the problem is I'm still married and it seemed to be very impossible to get out from this relationship. Right now we are thousands miles away actually half way around the world away from each other but still have constant communication. He keeps saying that he loves me and will do everything to have me in his life. I admit I love him too and really wants him to be in my life more than just a best friend. YET my question is why he had waited for so long to decide that he wants me in his life and that he is hoping for us to have a shared life more than best friends?

maybe he didn't think the feeling was mutual.

This is common.  I've had past relationships that went nowhere.  Only to find out that later (after surveying the waters) that I should have been with someone from the past.

This guy might be feeling the same way.  In fact, he could be more certain now than ever.  It's kind of sad that these things happen so much.  Many a great marriage, have been overlooked because of circumstances that prevent the right people from recognizing each other earlier in life.

Keep this in mind the next time you talk to him.  If you both feel the same way, let it grow and see what happens.
