  1. Thumbs Up Frank D!

Bigger isn't always better. Guys move slower and get tired easier. It produces less action.

  2. They're too heavy, I agree.

HW's been boring since they all got huge. The 80s were boring, except for Tyson. The 90s were boring, except for Holyfield (and Tyson's soap opera). Now it's just boring. The difference is, I have to side with Frank B on this one, that none of the prospects is American, so nobody gets overhyped like Tyson.

I've been a proponent for an additional weight class. 200-220 lbs. should be the Heavyweight division, 220 lbs. and above should be Super Heavyweight.

There are a lot of great boxers who would, in perfect shape, clock in at 200-220 lbs., but they have to either slim down to reach Cruiseweight, or fat up to compete with the Super Heavies. De facto, the Heavyweight division these days starts at 220 pounds, with many fighters easily reaching more than 230.

The young Muhammad Ali of the 60s, the one with the floating like a butterfly, fought around 200 lbs.

  3. too many undertrained, overweight and safety first boxers who only throw 5 punches per round.

  4. b/c it doesn't get any coverage by the media. when the title holders were American a lot of hype was created around the champions.

  5. I love the way the heavyweight division gets such a bashing these days. The main reason is simple. It's Eastern Europeans that dominate the scene.

They used to win in the Olympics... Soviet Union goes ka-plop and now they're winning professionally. Coincidence... probably not.

  6. the heavyweight division sucks now because all the top fighters are fat, lazy slobs.

    Sam Peter

    Oleg Maskaev

    Sergei Lyakhovich

    Chris Arreola

all came in grotesquely overweight in their last fights and i'm sick of it.  s***w the heavyweight division.

  7. I think the Heavyweights have just got too big nowadays, they all seem to be big and slow and as you say not very exciting to watch. I completely agree that watching the likes of Pacquiao, the Marquez brothers, Vasquez and others alike is much more entertaining.

  8. in the old days there are only one organisation.one champ for all.now  we got wba, ibf, wbc and so on.

  9. I think the decline was the rise of Lennox Lewis, he was a great boxer, but he really slowed down the pace of the division with his style.  There really aren't any blood and guts warriors anymore in that division.  The closest thing to excitement is Sam Peter, and I don't think he has the skill to stay where he is.  Personally I'd like to see David Haye move up and stay at Heavy (I am an American BTW)

  10. because they did it for a long time. At first, it was cool. Now it is boring because it is old
