Why high voltage are not used in domestic applications?

  1. Domestic voltage in the US is standardized at 120 volts because of safety and because if we used different voltages in each house machines would not work. If you used a 30000 volt outlet, you would probably either fry your machine that you plug in or it just would not turn on. Also, if you somehow shock yourself, you will have 30000 volts pumping through your body, but unlike a taser or a lightning bolt the current is continuous so you will die rather quickly.
