  6. Any game which has wide TV viewership will be extensively promoted in India - for commercial reasons.

A 32 year old 2 time world carrom champion form Bangalore live in penury, selling baskets on the streets, without recognition of achievements.

  7. there is too much overhead cost to open an ice facility in an area where hockey is popular, let alone in a place like india where hockey would only be a niche sport at best. Cricket can be played in any open field as opposed to ice hockey, which requires a building, compressors, zambonis, boards, water, and a population that is familiar with the sport to thrive. As uneducated as I am about india, i am quite sure it is not a hockey hungry nation

  8. because the indians cant play hockey and they have no ice

  9. What ICE Hockey? That answer is obvious.

  10. I assume you mean Ice Hockey since I do believe field hockey is tremendously popular in India and other south-Asian Countries.

Ice Hockey is not popular most likely because it is one of the most expensive sports to play.  The sport has a large equipment requirement not found in some other sports like cricket and baseball. Field hockey has similar equipment requirements, but lacks one big difference, the arena requirement.  While Ice does exist naturally at some areas in the mountainous regions of India, the majority of the country is not a cold weather region where ice is formed normally throughout the year, if at all in most places.  In cases such as these, ice hockey would be forced to be hosted indoors which is a costly venture both in land and currency.  India is a high population and densley packed area.  There is very little room if any for ice hockey arenas in the metropolitan areas.

Pretty much, ice hockey is just to much of an incovienance for the area for it to ever become widely popular.

  15. If you mean ice hockey, you already have a slew of answers.Any further attempts to

expound on the subject would not only be superfluous but also presumptuous.

As regards field hockey, the reason for the fall in popularity  of the game is mainly due to the stranglehold of one autocratic individual who is not prepared to brook any opposition.Besides,

this discredited individual who probably plays favorites and gives talented players the short shrift, thinks no end of himself and has won

support from the government by favoring

ministers and bureaucrats who matter, with foreign jaunts at the expense of the IHF.I wouldn't be surprised if even the elections are

conducted with the dice all loaded in his and his

cronies' favor with the weight of a few goons thrown in to lock the results tight.

  16. It's too warm (except for higher elevation) for the most part, it never had the marketing, and it's expensive.  I'm sure most of it just has to do with demographics.  I'm not sure that it will ever catch on in India.
