  1. Florescent lighting is the biggest criminal when it comes to AM static, because of its modulating alternating current. Any older, unshielded appliances (old electric heating pads, irons, electric heaters, etc) will also cause interference. AC appliances constantly switch between positive and negative, causing RF disturbance. If you have a persistent problem, try moving a portable AM radio around the house with lights and appliances on until you find the culprits.


  2. Because of It being AM :-)

    Basically AM is amplitude modulated.. the more audio you feed the more signal and power it uses.. however it also allows for noise to be introduced and be heard also in receivers made to pick up AM signals...

    FM picks up static too, it's just more immune to it than AM

  3. either ANY electronics. or....dont sit it on a TV.
