  1. Also known as Hashimoto's disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is named after the Japanese physician Hashimoto Hakaru (1881−1934) of the medical school at Kyushu University, who first described the symptoms in 1912 in a German publication.

Why is this in the Radio section? Hit the wrong button? Or is it a trivia question for a station? ;<)

    -a guy named duh

  2. It is named after the doctor who discovered it. However, the words hypothyroidism and hasimotos is not always interchangeable.  One can have hypothyroidism and not have Hasimoto's. This is because with Hashimoto's there is the presence of antibodies, where in hypothyroidism not caused by antibodies there are no antibodies present. I have hypothyroidism and no antibodies, so I do not have Hashimotos

  3. I think that it's named for the doctor who isolated the condition. I had Graves Disease of the thyroid.

  4. Ewwww. Didnt know that.
