the record of 49-0-0 43 kos says it all you can say he fought bums and old men but he didnt lose some of you guys come out here and say how fast and hard hitting lennox lewis was which really he wasnt either and claim hes a great well lennox fought old men and bums too yet he got kod 3 times by average opposition i even heard a guy come out here and say lewis would of crushed marciano and yes on paper he should of by his size advantage but yet he couldnt put david tua a man of marcianos height away he clearly couldnt ko tua saying all this marciano hit harder than tua took a punch better than tua and was a better fighter i think rocky may of given lewis trouble he would of most definately gone the distance if tua could do it marciano with his chin and stamina certainly could of done it 49-0-0 says it all undefeated lewis was not and lost to average opponents at that he won the rematches but hes still got 3 losses in a day and age when the heavyweight division was done

  1. I agree but will go one better i believe he would have beaten most of the current and recent Heavy Weight's.The only two heavies that i think might have beaten him and this would have been in there prime are George Foreman and the very much under rated Larry Holmes . I met Rocky when he toured the Lear Jet Plant and was killed in a plane crash 2 week's later if memory serves me right. What most modern boxing fans do not take into consideration today is the major factor in any sport called Heart. As for fighting bums and old men that to me just shows you how little they know of boxing history....

  2. Lol, there are so many holes in your argument i don't even know where to start, i usually refrain from answering these kind of questions because your mind is already made up and you won't consider any of the good points i mention but i will try and be brief.

First of all....boxing in the fifties and forties was VERY different from boxing today, you can watch the videos yourself and compare, boxers today use the jab a lot more and are much more polished than boxers of old. That been said your comparison of marciano and tua is empty. When you look at marciano's record(go to wikipedia)and watch his videos you will notice two things (i know you notice them too) first of all 80% of his opponents is composed of nobodies (literally they don't even have entries on wikipedia or profiles in boxing encyclopedias) and secondly all the big names on his resume were not only past their primes but had well over 200 fights between them, and that leaves only two or three prime opponents that were somewhat respected, harry kid matthews, roland la starza, lee savold and perhaps don cocknell......hardly hall of fame material......that been said you have to consider styles, Tua was heavier than marciano and a natural heavyweight and even though Lewis didn't ko him, he still lost to lennox. moreover marciano's style was tailor made for lennox, Marciano fought from a low stance and tried to get inside people's defenses, however marciano was netier fast enough nor quick on his feet, and an experienced jabber like lennox would have kept him at bay all day to earn a decision, moreover even though lennox got some questionable KO's it wasn't because of a shaky chin, but simply due to carelessness, he underestimated mccallum and rahman and that came back to bite him in the butt however he has faced much harder hitters than mccallum and rahman and he has gone the distance...moreover marciano always had problems with guys that could actually box, ezzard charles gave him a hard time twice and at the time ezzard was already showing signs of lou gehrig's disease, archie moore managed to knock him down and archie moore was already past his prime and only really effective at light heavyweight...joe louis was a shadow of his former self who was fighting for money ....and while people like you will try and say that he was still a top fighter at the time it does not take a genius to see that such statement is foolish, just compare joe louis when he was in his prime and the old joe louis  that fought marciano and you will see two completely different fighters. jersey joe walcott was already past his prime as well and marciano had to struggle to win that fight. The truth is that Marciano never faced an opponent like lennox lewis, if marciano had to struggle against guys like roland la starza and an old ezzard charles then how would he be able to handle a prime lennox lewis whose size, reach and weight vastly outnumbered marciano's? And if styles make fights how would a 188 pound guy with slow feet, short reach and rudimental skill level be able to handle lennox lewis, who was a big, strong and skilled fighter with a good jab?........your problem is that your bias afffects your judgement and makes you oblivious to the truth, marciano was a good fighter in his era (perhaps the only real good fighter) but you need to keep him in perspective, modern heavyweights are bigger, stronger and much more skillful than the heavyweights of the forties and fifties....even jack johnson would not be able to cope with guys like that, marciano might have had the chin and the stamina but they would not be enough and power without good skill is not very useful.....you often accuse me of being racist but if you check my answers it is pretty obvious that i am not, pavlik and james braddock are among my favourite fighters and i respect and admire greats like the rock and dempsey but i am also a realist, for example, my favorite heavyweight is probably Mike Tyson but i would never say that he was the greatest heavyweight or that he could beat a prime foreman simply because such notion would not be realistic....likewise, you should try and keep sentimental and racial bias out whenever you are comparing fighters....cause if you don't it will affect your credibility.....i know you will probably pick an answer that's closer to your opinion, but i just felt i should give you my two cents.

  3. Seeing as you referred to lewis. All you can do is beat whats out there and lewis did that. Holyfield,Tyson,Ruddock, plus riddick bowe ran from him,  so its a bit harsh on lennox. And dont forget he beat klitschko at the end of his career. As for rocky, a great fighter but, of his time. Genetics win here i think and lewis would simply be way too big.

  4. rocky would be a cruiserweight today they would not allow him to step in the ring with lennox lewis fighters were getting killed in the old days alot of it from  mismatches in size during the 1950s the weight regulations were different in the heavyweight division i i believe the weight limit was 180 and up although billy conn fought joe louis at about 170 lbs that was in the 40s i think the weight rules changed in the late 70s the limit was 198 and up and a couple of yrs later it was changed to 200 lbs and up which is the present rules

  5. you didn't ask a question if you just wanted to tell your wrong opinion they have forums for that

  6. i do give him his pointers he was a good one

  7. 1st of all Lennox Lewis's final record is 41-2-1 with 32 KO's.  I don't think Lennox was one of the greatest heavyweights however during his time he did beat some decent opponents & yes Riddick Bowe ducked him badly.  He beat Tyson, Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko (the better one) & others.

Rocky beat Joe Louis who was 37, Archie Moore who was 39, & Jersey Joe Walcott twice who was 39 & he barely won the 1st fight.  None of those fighters were in their primes.   Rocky vs Lennox would have been a good fight because Rocky did have a great chin & great stamina however did he ever fight a figher that was 6'5" 240lbs who could keep him off with his jab.

Rocky wouldn't have beat Ali, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield, just to name a few.  He has an outstanding record however when he was 32 which is most fighters primes he retired because he struggled with a 39 year old Archie Moore who knocked down Rocky in the 2nd round.  Rather than show his greatness he retired.   When Joe Louis lost to Max Schmeling he fought some more fights & then destroyed him in the rematch.  Rocky would have been killed by Ali, George Foreman & Mike Tyson!!!!

He might be greater than Lennox Lewis but he is still overrated!!!!

  8. ye ok malivista or whatever your called, tyson? ali? what the h**l do you know, in an interview ali said the only boxer he would never have beaten is lennox lewis because he would have tactically pickked him to pieces with his jab and strength, and as for tyson do u even watch your boxing,? lennox lewis knocked that fool out !!!! lewis unified the entire heavyweight divison destroying all that got in his way, any boxer can have a bad day and any so called average opponent can throw a lucky punch....what the h**l is average anyway,? those so called 3 average fighters to beat lewis, they where obviously pro if they where fighting him!!!!! lewis came back and destroyed them, many legendary boxers have said lewis will go down as the best heavyweight boxer ever, even Ali said it

  9. Yeh id say so to but i will always stand by this that you can only beat them that are there at your time and he did also beat them.

joe louis did the same fighting them who was around  at  his  time.

    some with ali.

i wish there was a time lord so we could settle this once and  for  all..

so you got fans of ali- rocky-louis- tyson and more great fighters

who say tysons fans say he would beat ali. ali fans say tyson would be on his back in 2 rounds

lewis fans say rocky beat a shadow of the former champ he was.

rocky fans say there man never lost.

i love boxing and i dont care who beats who i have my best boxers who i rate.

yes i will also say who i think who would beat who  if its a good question.

lewis rocky dempys jonnson  are way before my time so is ali but every one has seen his videos and khows he was  class he  is the fans favort boxer ever and has fans who never seen him in the ring as they was not born. so take ali away you have to see videos and read books..

as for the older boxers one man will say he is class the other

will say he was not as good as what there recored says and beat no one.

what im saying he was the best at his time.

    so did  ali

    ali best of his time

joe louis best of his time

    jonnson best of his time

    dempsy best of his time

    tyson best of his time

    lennox best of his time

    homles best of his time

some we khow alot about as we seen them go from

0 to world champs rite in front of us.

some we have to see clips not all there fights

some  we need books or other wise you wouldnt have a clue

    about them.

the one thing is we still talk about them and they  all was the best of there time.they was heros to there fans  and no matter what there heros was the best ever  no matter what and you cant change there minds.

but you are not wrong he was a great champ.. they all was.

  10. I agree with everything Ericktravel said.

  11. I,m not going to take anything away from Rocky and I,m not going to take anything away from LENNOX Lewis . THANK YOU ERICKTRA you did your home work on Rocky and I know if Lennox fought Rocky the fight would be over with in two rounds if and old Joe Louis knocked Rocky down I would hate to think what Lennox would have done to him.Like Ericktra  pointed out look at who Rocky beat  a bunch of no names and old men come on the record does not lie.

  12. in a boxing match, both in their primes,

    marciano would destroy lewis

lewis was  asecond rate fighter, was nowhere near greats such as ali/tyson/marciano/frazier/louis etc.

marciano did NOT fight bums, wtf he fought the likes of jersey joe walcott and archie moore.  not to mention K.Oing an ONFORM JOE LOUIS!

tbh i think you would have hard time finding a better opponents list anywhere.  he fought anyone and everyone decent in his era and had a very unique style did rocky,

i am a firm believer that a great boxer should incorporate skills such as lighting  fast bullet of jabs etc.. with great movement and great knowledge of the sport (description of muhammad ali).

people will say rocky is not a smart boxer but for him to beat his oppenents with the skills he has, is incredible. he just kept on coming. he never backed down, that is why he never lost.

no doubt he was never the boxer* that louis, ali was, but the heart and determination made up for this and he was raw.

so in answer to your Q, he is immense
