Why ignition stays on when key is out?

Ford Probe 1995 (M) 16v SE. Car starts but when you take the key out the fan lights on dash stay on. Have had to disconnect the battery every time.

  1. jock is right ,,mostly your relay might be burned out ,,common problem ,,,,


  2. what are those two fools above talking about you need a new ignition tumbler go to a locksmith and they do it for cheap

  3. I had same problem and it was the alternator. get it checked. good luck.

  4. i know the probs have a common fault with the dissy/coil pack...

  5. electric cooling fan has temp sensor go's off water temp cools

    you could need new fan

    ? you hook battery  back up and start cold is fan running if  yes buy

    new fan

  6. Your alternator diode pack has gone.This is allowing the alternator to back feed the ignition warning light.Replace the alternator,hope this helps

  7. hi there somebody has already said it could be alternator which is a possibility, easy way to check is disconnect thin wire from alternator if all lights go out then is alternator, but also check your fan relay as it could be stuck on or burnt out that could cause the same problem, again take out fan relays to se if lights go off   jock
