Why in San Diego, police officers have black uniforms?

It depends on what rank of the officer he or she is.

The last time I saw SDPD's uniforms they were khaki just like the Highway Patrol, but if they changed uniforms it could be that the members of the SDPD voted for the new uniforms. It is thought by many that dark uniforms show more of a "command presence" (police academy phrase) or authority presence than lighter colored uniforms.
