Why in clips of Ray Emery being late for practice there's a tie or something in the net what does that mean?

  1. It is a hockey sock. An old tradition in pick up hockey if a goalie doesn't show up we hung a sock from the cross bar a goal would be counted if the sock was hit with a shot. Odds worked out pretty close to equal.


  2. He was late, and his teammates put a necktie in the net to try and shoot at instead of having a goalie to practice with. Draw your own conclusions.

  4. They thought the tie would do a better job of stopping the puck than Emery.
