  1. The rules depend on the track, but generally the horses are either owned by same owner or trained by same trainer and making them a single entry avoids them throwing a race with the lower odds horse in favor of setting up the horse with higher odds.

So now they run as a single betting "entry" so you are wagering on both horses together.  (Either horse need to finish in the required position to cash a bet).

  2. they are coupled same owner

Now here is another when a trainer has 2 or more but thats different ,,

  3. This is called an "entry" when an owner has two horses in the same race.

Any bet you have on the 1 or 2 horse wins if either a or b comes in as you have bet.

  4. Any time 2 horses are entered in the same race which come from the same stable, you have what is called an "entry" and such animals will wear the 1, 1a, 2, 2a, 3, 3a, and so forth on their saddle pads. I saw a race once, many years ago, that had a 6a and 6b horse entry in it. I don't remember what track that was on, though, because it was so long ago.

  5. I want to add too that since both jockeys will have the same silks, they are differentiated by different colors of hats.

  6. trainer has horses that he owns or trains must go as entry...2 and 2b is trainer of horses in same race /similar circumstances

  7. two horses instead of one to win or lose your money

  8. If 2 horses from the same ownership are entered in the same race, they are often entered as an entry.  That's when there will be a 1 and 1a.  Those are the 2 horses from the same ownership.  When you bet on the entry, you get 2 chances to win.  If either one of them wins the race, then you win.  It's like betting on 1 horse, but you're really getting 2 chances!  If there are 2 sets of entries in one race, one will be the 1 and 1a and the other will be the 2 and 2b.  The entry wears the saddle cloth of 1 and 1a, but they don't have the 2 inside post positions.  Usually the 2 has the inside post and the 1 and 1a are somewhere else (separate) in the starting gate

  9. 1A is a coupling of entrymate for 1.  2B is a unique identification for coupling of 2 entry mate of a second entry pair.  3C would be the unique identification for the 3 in a third

    pairing.

A, B, or C can clearly be seen on saddle cloth to identify running mates.
