She's #1 in the world by a huge margin, she was 5' 6'' woopin up on everybody. The Federer of womens tennis. Shes only 25 years old, and the french is coming up. Now it seems Sharapova will once again be number one like she was when Henin took a short break before. Will she come back like Hingis did?

  1. I know! I cant believe she retired especially with the French coming up where she`s been soooo dominant and also wimbledon which she`s never won! Its crazy because she`s such a great athlete she could have won all the grand slams !!! She had a great chance to win wimby this year but pfft she retires :( She did say she in the press conference that she was ready to retire and had been something she was thinking about for a long time. Who knows what will happen with Justine in the future, its her life lol so all we can do is wish her good luck no matter how bad we wish she didnt retire. As for all these people on yahoo disrespecting Justine, is shocking she is a fantastic player if people cant realise that then well.... im speechless. Well done Henin for all her accomplishments she`ll be well missed from the tour. Though think Serena will be happy lol

  2. she can't stand physical and mental stress in tennis anymore..

  3. i think its not about her points slipping, can't hold #1 spot anymore ( she's been #1-2003/2006 and she never cared getting pushed out ); its about living life outside tennis...when we achieved all what we wanted and dream of, we started looking at the other sides of life---our relationship with people special to us..maybe that's the reason behind all of this retirement. She wanted to have more time for herself and for her life after tennis.  I think she already planned for all these things, she build tennis academy so she wont get depressed when she no longer plays..

we have to respect her decision---only she knows what is best for her.......

  4. Yes, it seem amazing to give that all up...but it must be such a challenge to maintain the level of tennis she needs to remain number 1....

I always found her quite sour on interviews but hey who cares when you have backhand like she does.....

  5. I think she is planning a return for Wimbledon.

  6. Is unusual at this time for her as the number one ranking is hers. I think for most they leave when it is not on top of the other players.

  7. She retired because she knew she could no longer produce the level of tennis she has in the past.  A string of losses, including 6-0 sets to Sharapova and Williams, and a 6-1 3rd set loss to Safina, who she used to own, as well as a straight set loss to then 30-something ranked Schiavone, shook her confidence, and she just gave up.  I always thought she had an incredible game (especially that backhand), although I never liked her, but I had no idea how lacking she was of a heart of a champion, to just throw in the towel on her entire career over a bad patch of losses.  Whatever, good riddance.   And her husband dumped her last year, so now she has no on to go home to cry to.  Waaah!

  8. Henin retired because she cannot stand to see her ranking slip as her skills started to decline. This has been the year in which her decline was started to show. She timed it a day after Annika Sorenstam retired to fly somewhat undercover of Annika's publicity. Henin was one of the least likable tennis players ever. She was seen as a cheater for the stunt she pulled at the 2003 French where she denied Serena a championship. She quit during the Australian Open, a stunt which was un heard of at the time. She needed to leave a long time ago.

  9. she was getting beaten badly this year and had a bunch of injuries. Serena Williams destroyed her in their most previous meeting. Henin is still sad about her divorce and is looking forward to a non tennis future.

  10. she said she wants to have a NORMAL life

  11. All things must come to an end some how. Henin has nothing to prove and nothing to loose. She has achieve what she was looking for in tennis, and, now, what is there for her to make her more happier. She will definately be miss, and no doubt, her absence will see women tennis dominated by the eastern european beauties in the top twenty rankings.

It would be a complete achievement if she completes the Serena Slam..

  12. hey if i were 25,owned 7 Grand Slams, had 17 million or so USD in the bank,41 tour titles and two beautiful homes in monaco(the dream place for the wealthy)and brussels...i don't think i would have anything else to prove to anybody. she's in the history books.  she has enough money to live her life whilst she's still in her 20's and have a bit of fun.
