Why in the heck does everyone ask if a MMA fighter would beat a WWE wrestler?

You want to "pick up" an MMA fighter and throw them? Do you know how fast they would just dislocate your arm? Yeah....great idea....reach for them. Think again man. That is a good way to wind up in a chiropractors office!

  1. Why does people assume, because pro wrestling is choreographed: A) they don't get hurt, and B) they don't know anything else.  It's like assuming because Rich Franklin is a fighter...no, he couldn't possibly have a masters degree in education, those guys are knuckledraggers.  Hah!  And Chuck Liddel doesn't  have degree in Business.

Jesse Ventura, was a Navy SEAL in Viet Nam.  I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let him use his military training in the ring.  Just a guess.

Lou Thesz, in his day was known as a "hooker", meaning he knew very real, potential crippling submissions (as in a worm on hook can wriggle, but he's not going anywhere).  And if a guy didn't want to follow the "script", he'd do things the hard way.

Bret Hart, if you ask him will say he can't fight.  But it's a known fact that Stu Hart taught all his sons how to "shoot fight" in case they were ever in a match with someone who was actually trying to injure them.

"The Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez, was known for going to bars and deliberately getting into fights.

"Chief Wahoo" Steve McDaniels was once challenged as a "fake" by two guys in bar.  They wouldn't leave him alone, he gave one guy a broken nose and the other guy a concussion.

Then there are the guys who have done both MMA and pro wrestling: Dan Severn, Satoru Sayama, Don Frye, Kazushi Sakuraba (yes he was), Sylvester Terkay, Ron Waterman, etc.  Also, don't automatically discount all the guys who have transitioned from football and college wrestling into pro wrestling.

Don't believe what you see on TV, and don't assume anything.

And joe -- you're an idiot.  Did you see Frank Mir's face after that fight?  End of story

  2. well, look what happened to Brock Lesner, end of debate

  3. There are a couple of WWE stars who have legit wrestling backrounds (i.e. Brock Lesnar D-1 national champ) but if they just went into it heads up an MMA fighter would beat the WWE guy. Its not that hard to get out of the way when a guy's only good move is a dropkick off the top of the cage:)

  4. Well, a good example of this is Lesner.  Although he lost, he made a good showing, and probably could have beaten a lesser MMA opponent, instead he was fed to submission artist Frank Mir (Former Champ).  Some WWE wrestlers are good, and have very good "real" wrestling skills, which is a very important part of MMA.  I think it all depends on the matchup.

  5. who says wwe wrestlers are super humanly strong?

  6. The majority of WWE pro wrestlers, are huge.  If they fought full force, intending to really hurt their opponent, odds are they would severely injure or cripple an MMA fighter.  MMA fighters, rely too much on raw physical strength over technique.  Truly skilled MMA fighters such as Shamrock in the olden days, or Gracie, are gone now, the most skilled MMA fighters largely coming from Pride.

Relying too much on physical strength means that if someone you encounter is stronger than you, you are going to lose.  Most WWE guys, are actually really nice people, conditioned by modern society to "hold back" their physical strength.  What would happen though, if one of those guys decided NOT to hold back?  What if, say, society descended into barbarism, and to survive they were forced to kill, and use those pro wrestling moves full force?  I mean, REALLY, hit someone, to hurt them.  REALLY power slam them.

It has been stated in Japanese martial arts circles, that American pro wrestlers, as big as they are, if they did not hold back, if they did not "pull" their punches and grappling moves, they would rip MMA fighters apart.  Japanese martial artists have analyzed American pro wrestlers because they see them as potentially the most challenging opponents to traditional martial arts.  Lets face it, even without roids, many of those guys are naturally huge.  You could have 10 bodyguards, h**l man, the President's secret service would not be able to stop one of those guys if he was in a rage.

ANY form of fighting can be choreographed, MMA included, as that retarded movie "Never Back Down" has shown.  All pro wrestling is, is choreographed grappling for entertainment made spectacular, but, the tough question has to be asked; what would happen if a pro wrestler was devoid of any human compassion?  What if a pro wrestler was, say, from the middle ages, and a trained warrior?  If all a pro wrestler has to do, to negate the fighting skill of an MMA fighter is pick them up and throw them, then, if said pro wrestler was not restricted by any morality, they could, and would do it.

MMA fighters, are skillful but in their own way, so are pro wrestlers.

Now, forgive the rudeness but your question is pretty pointless; way back when, a pro wrestler actually entered the octagon, and he was submitted by Ken Shamrock.  One of the reasons Shamrock won the respect of the martial arts community, is because he submitted a former pro wrestler who was nearly twice his size, showing that he was not just all strength but skillful too.  Thing is, once again..... they may be big dudes, but they are also nice guys conditioned by society to hold back their raw power.  Some pro wrestlers can bench press 600 lbs.

Unless there was some sort of illegal, human c**k fighting, Tijuana style, fight circuit, most of us will likely never see men that size fight full force, actually attempting to kill.

The point I am trying to make here is that if a pro wrestler was not civilized, and I mean, they were attempting to hit someone, as hard as they could, many pro wrestling moves would work, for the simple reason that they are ideal weapons for men that big.

Contrary to the stereotype, most big guys are not bullies in fact, most are nice people.  Bullies come in all shapes and sizes, and myself personally, the tallest, biggest one I got in a scuffle with way back when was 6'3.  Those are dwarf proportions when compared to a pro wrestler.  Sack of c**p was also overweight, meaning, he didn't hold his wind very well.  Had I had an encounter with a muscle bound pro wrestler though, who was actually fit.....  I would probably be typing with a pencil held to my mouth right now.

    food for though.

    peace out.

  7. they want fantasy to beat out reality.

  8. yea people are stpid. an mma fighter would rip a WWE head off. they cant fight, they are on steroids, and they would really get messed up in a real fight against mma.

  9. Yes we know this to be true. That being said there are some gems in the WWE like Kurt Angle. I don't follow the WWE but I know he was a gold medalist in wrestling. Sure he's not in top form with that anymore but I would bet some of them have a wrestling background. Don't you remember a time back in your youth when you thought that stuff was all real? Give the kids who ask the question a break. If it's an adult asking the question then by all means fire away. But the kids deserve to be able to just use their imagination and enjoy. They will learn sooner or later.

  10. Sorry but I have to disagree to a certian extent. Yes given most of the variables a UFC fighter will beat someone from the WWE, but it is not garunteed.

Many people in the WWE are actually trained in martial arts, and while they may not be up to UFC standards, that still counts for something. Many are also former college wrestlers, so they do have an actual grappling background, what most don't have is any actual submission skills.

WWE wrestlers train to absorb punishment as well, and many have very good cardio. I realize that evrything is pretty much scripted, but rty putting your body through what they do on aregular basis. Sorry but a slam is a slam.

While I agree that there is not much of a chance, nothing is ever a certinty in a fight. If it was Serra never would have beat JSP the first time, but fluke stuff does happen.

That's the problem with blanket statements, there are always exceptions.

    LMAO @ Bluto and bow.
