All hard liquor tastes like oven cleaner to an inexperienced drinker.  Rum is distilled from cane sugar, and has wonderful subtleties to its flavors.

Personal taste mate. But dark rum is nice with a little blackcurrant cordial, or a small bit of peppermint cordial. White rum (bacardi) is good with coke. I mean cola, not cocain.

I agree with Mark: it really is a matter of personal taste. Have you ever tried a piña colada? It's made with rum, but really doesn't have that pungent rum flavor when made properly.

Malibu

Parrot Bay

And some drinks...

Piña Colada

Daiquiri

Malibu-Coke/Sprite or juices

Same w/regular bacardi

If you mix Captain w/pineapple juice you can't taste d**n thing

Pineapple-Bacardi 151 and Malibu is great together

Raw Rum ,over Refined Bacardi,  spirit from cane mollases  has its own flavor we like. it WAS much cheaper than whisky and Brandy. F Y I  there ARE  persons who sniff oven cleaners, hahaha.
