  1. Great answer, nikkie1685.  You global warming alarmists have deluded yourselves so much that you think no matter what the weather, it must be related to global warming.  Record heat?  GW.  Record cold?  GW.  Hurricanes?  GW.  No hurricanes?  GW.  Drought?  GW.  Floods?  GW.

You alarmists recite Algore's mantra over and over so much that you now believe anything.  Imagine this same logic applied to the last great scientific consensus: the flat Earth.  THE EARTH IS FLAT!  THE EARTH IS FLAT well except for the parts that are round.  The flat Earth can also cause the Earth to be round.  Yeah, right.  And I've got some carbon credits to sell you.

EDIT:  ladysunshineau, cold weather in the winter is unusual?!?!  You alarmists have got to be kidding me.  Thanks for showing the world just how deluded you alarmists are.

EDIT #2:  Jenny C, sorry to burst your bubble, but by all accounts, the Antarctic ice sheet is growing.  As for the Arctic ice sheet, you are correct that the Northwest Passage is open, but is that a problem?  The Vikings used the Northwest Passage - did they cause global warming or do you think just maybe the warming was natural?  And if it was natural and not a problem then, what makes it a problem now?

  2. If you were the first person to ask this question I may be slightly more patient. But you are about the 100th this week.

One winter does not have anything to do with global warming. The issue you are talking about is called weather.

And as for your reference to the global warming swindle... LMFAO......Although the documentary was welcomed by global warming skeptics, it was criticized heavily by many scientific organizations and individual scientists (including two of the film's contributors). The film's critics argued that it had misused data, relied on out-of-date research, employed misleading arguments, and misrepresented the position of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Read some peer reviewed papers and stop looking at mind numbing garbage on youtube.....Good grief.....

Your cause and beliefs are not helped by your bad spelling, I mean if you cant even spell global how are you expecting to understand the subject?

  3. There have been quite a few questions about the cool winter with the suggestion (with no supporting evidence) that the northern ice is larger than  ever. The link below compares march 10 1998 to march 10 2008. This clearly shows the ice isn't bigger it's similar in size to the year listed by most as the warmest of modern times. At the bottom of both images you can see England & Ireland if you come up about 2cm and go right ~2cm (next to the long thin island) the 2008 image has a area twice the size of England which has no ice at all, anymore.

  4. Cold temperatures in one winter are not solid evidence for global warming, and are not solid evidence against it.  There is one major thing to know about global warming -the difference between climate change and weather change.

Weather change is seasonal, yearly, and daily change in temperature and precipitation.

Climate change is all these weather changes, but over a much longer period of time.  It is not considered climate unless at least 60 years of data are looked at.

Global Warming is climate change, not weather change.  This is not just some stupid, desperate claim made by what you call "alarmists."  This fact both helps and hurts their claims, actually.  Basically, one winter of very cold temperatures does not disprove global warming, but one winter of very hot temperatures does not prove it.

The reason scientists believe in global warming is that this change, while it may still fluctuate year to year, is pointing to a major warming of the Earth.  The climate data they have acquired shows that there have been fluctuations of temperature throughout the history of Earth, but the trends in more recent years have gone far beyond what is "normal" for the earth.

So, if you actually have been reading this, what does that mean? It means that while the weather in the world this one winter has been low, the climate of Earth is still increasing.  And one more thing: though some places may have experienced cold temperatures, i'm not so sure about "all time lows."  Where I live, on the east coast of the US, it was almost 70 degrees out some days in january.

But, of course, even though climate study and research has shown the earth to be going through an unusually high period of warming, it could still just be an unusual fluctuation.  But do you really thing its worth risking the entire planet just for a few more years of comfort while we "think about it."  do we really need to wait until the planet is completely submerged to think that maybe global warming does exist? And even if it doesn't, how is it going to hurt to try and reduce our energy use, or the emission of dangerous chemicals.  It certainly can't hurt the environment to reduce them, and even if they don't cause global warming, they harm humans and all life in other ways.  For example, most of these gasses, especially in cities, are responsible for the increase in respiratory diseases.

  5. We aren't experiencing all time low temperatures. In fact, temps this winter have still been well above average. It has been cooler this winter than the past few because we're currently experiencing cool-phase la Niña conditions which have prevailed through the November-February period.

Regardless, we're still talking about global warming (I haven't heard anybody screaming yet) even in the winter because global warming is a long term change, and has nothing to do with how hot or cold a single season is. Temps from year to year fluctuate widely. What matters is how they're changing on a multi-decadal time scale.

  6. Here in Melbourne Australia, yesterday it was 40c (104F) I didn't notice any cooling its surposed to be mid 30s most of this week. the 40c is a ten year high for this time of year.

  7. Are you screaming?  Well stop it for God's Sakes!!!!!

  8. It's obvious..

All the weathermen in the country are being paid by oil companies to tell us it's cold out, when really it's been at least 130 degrees all winter.

  9. The whole thing is a fraud, that's why. We are coming out of an Ice Age. Of course the planet is warming slowly. I am all for protecting the environment, but to put everyone in the world back on bicylcles is not going to change a thing. So stop throwing rocks at my SUV, please!

  10. Scientist need to keep their money flow alive

  11. I don't hear anyone screaming, but the concern over Global Warming continues because it's a long-term issue.

Climate concerns are based on long-term trends (decades and more), not individual cold winters.  The current cool (still warmer than average) winter is caused by a la nina condition (cold deep ocean water brought to the surface) and that's only a short-term reprieve from the long-term warming caused by the increased green-house gases in our atmosphere.

Before assuming that "The Great Global Warming Swindle" is an accurate portrayal of the science (vs. an intentionally deceptive documentary), you might want to do some more research on it:

  12. Because its a fact the icecaps are melting. And maybe here in the northern US we had an almost regular winter, I know overseas it was pretty mild this year. You are an ignorant dumbass.

Its like saying I see trees when I drive on the highway, therefore the rainforests are okay.

REally quality facts you have there on YOUTUBE.

  13. Global warming doesn't just mean that things are too hot.  Global warming can cause winter temperatures during times when there wouldn't usually be winter temperatures.

  14. Well if this cooling trend continues for 20 or 30 years you can rest assurred, man did it. If it doesn't, man did it. get the picture?

  15. Basically because what happens is the warm weather melts the glaciers and a bunch of cold water gets dumped into the oceans which then makes the temperatures get colder. I for one am not a global warming advocate but am very scared by the drastic temperatures that we have experienced her this winter. One day it will be 55 and the next 25.

  16. sadly global warming is not straight forward so we get weird weather at odd times of the year etc, if you are unsure about the whole warming thing just go back maybe 50 to 70 years and look at tempretures and patterns of weather across the globe
