This is why I want the IOC to implement the same set of rules or as close to the same set of rules as possible for every sport in the Olympics. Naturally, subjective, judged events like gymnastics will have innately different rules for the most part than timed, objective events like swimming and track. HOWEVER, there are some rules about medals and other things that can be the same in every sport across the board, like how old you have to be to participate. There's a 14 year old diver and that's fine but in gymnastics, the gymnasts have to be at least 16 by the end of the Olympic year. Why does that have to be different? I don't understand.
