  1. ok don't know if  you knew this bit but 'bank' holiday comes from the day the bank was closed so no trading could take place . I think they just set them up for bank employees to have more days off within the year maybe they couldn't booked have weeks off like we do now . Don't knwo why but this one is just always the last monday in august .  


  2. It's the August Bank Holiday which originally was on the first Monday in August, but as there are no other bank holidays until Christmas, they decided to have it on the last Monday in August to shorten the time between now and Christmas.

Bank holidays were originally started in the 1800's, Sir John Lubbock introduced The Bank Holidays Act so that people that work in banks could have time off to play or attend cricket matches (he was a keen cricketer and also a banker). August bank holiday was originally the first Monday of August but was moved to the last monday so it came at the end of the holiday season.

    Scotland still have the first Monday of August
