I went to One Tree Hill in the Dandenongs, Victoria on the weekend - does anyone know why a hill covered in trees (of different types) would be called one tree hill? Was it cleared at some stage? By the way, where is the tower thing that used to be there?

  1. I may be wrong and i am sure a more local person will correct me if i am ... BUT way way back when the area was first being settled .. much of the area was cleared BEFORE it was made a national park.

I believe the tower thing is a Bushfire spotting place.

Will scoot off to try and find you some photos/

Sorry Jackie didn't have any luck BUT if you enquire at the Shire offices they may have some information and books.. I have seen photos and the area was pretty stark at one point

Asked my husband , he said it was possibly from when they used to clear large areas on a Hill , leaving one tree as a point to use in Trigonometry to work out the height of the Hill...
