  1. Because you are not talking 24/7  and even when you do talk you  are communicating in other ways 2

  2. Because you can say a lot with a look and usually the way you present yourself says a lot about who you are. People read into the tone of your voice and if you were slouching as opposed to standing straight says "I let people walk all over me".

Everyone can tell the "I hate you" look in someones eyes. And at sometimes not speaking is the best way to get your point across.

  3. u answered ur own question :)

  4. because there are certain things that we do not feel comfortable saying verbally/explicitly or we dont deem fit to be said.... ans sometimes, there are things that we just want to imply, but are not certain if we want to get through...or sometimes, because we want to save face. like when we are not sure what to do at a certain circustace, it is always easier to make a gesture(i.e. smile, make a hand movement, etc) than to say anything at all

  5. 60% Body Language

    30% Tone

    10% Verbal

    you have for 60% +30%+10%=100%

  6. Because 60% is Body Language and 30% is Tone.

    30% + 60% = 90%

so we conclude that 10% of communication is Verbal.

    WRONG

That equation has left out written communication as well as Visual communication.

And I know some people that can talk their -A dbl snake- off,

I'm sure they are way over 10% verbal.

  7. Because non-verbal communication is universally understood.

  8. Because its much easier to read what the person is trying to say, or how they feel, through body language than it is through the words coming out of their mouths.

  9. facial expressions and looks are hte other %

  10. the ability to Listen is the most powerful key to communication...

  11. Communication doesn't have to be 90% non-verbal...

If you use the cell-phone (or phone), most of it is verbal + tone.

Tone is important because it might change the interpretation of the same verbal.

    Both are equally important.

  12. "shrug"

  13. Because before where was language, there were already actions and sounds (tone) which conveyed meaning.

Therefore, it is human nature to instinctively be wired to body language and tone or sound.

  14. That's not really an answerable question.

  15. What do you mean "WHY?"

If you'd explained your question AT ALL, we might be able to answer it.

But you didn't so all I can do is remark on the claim.

It's absurd to put numbers to "amount of communication" so that percent stuff is silly.

BUT it is true that we communicate in ways besides the choice of words and the order we use them.

Read transcripts. You'll find them hard to read. People don't finish sentences, or start one sentence, then finish another -- sort of changing what they're saying as they go.

There's all sorts of verbal oddities, and lots missing from just the words.

Yet we understand each other much better than looking at just the words would suggest. That's where tone, body language, facial expression and such come in.

As for WHY all these things are part of it, why wouldn't they be?

We try to communicate and to understand each other. Words are only one part of that. We aren't merely walking dictionaries, we're people, animals who use language as part of our way of living in the world among other critters like us.

Just because we have words, doesn't mean we've completely abandoned all the rest of the ways other critters communicate.

    Why WOULD we?

If what I've written doesn't help, then try again, but actually explain what it is you want to know.

  16. Because you can tell a lot about a person in their movements, reactions and other non-verbal communications.
