I will be enlisting in the Air force quite soon, and I know many people who have been in the military or are still in the military and every time I tell them that I decided to enlist Air Force since I, am eligible they said your lucky because people in the air force are spoiled. Why is this? They go to boot camp just like everyone else and I don't really see the benefits being that different, and it makes me feel like they think I' am going to be pampered or something. So any ideas?

  1. Each branch of the military has pro's and con's as well as unique challenges. That does not even get into the fact that every branch has a variety of jobs with different work environments and levels of difficulties. I was in the Navy four years and know there are very hard jobs like working as part of the flightdeck crew on a carrier compared to working in an office doing paper work. Your job in the Air Force is very important and equal to any other because you are changing your whole life for the sake of the United States. Be proud of yourself and your job! If someone tries to knock you for your choice especially if they themselves are in another branch chances are they are jealous. The Air Force is known for recruiting the most intelligent people to do high tech jobs as well as not accepting prior service. You can be proud you were allowed to joined. You are right about the benefits being similar. Perhaps they are thinking of the physical fitness requirements or if you live in barracks instead of in tents or on a ship? But ignore that because they made their choice and being away from your family is the same if your deployed in whichever branch of the military. The above answer is correct in that many Air Force are deployed on the ground in Iraq. I know because my husband (Navy) had to work with them.

  2. I just got out of the army and a lot of my fellow soldiers did in fact consider airmen spoiled.

I was stationed at Fort Bragg, which connects to pope air force base.  as soon as you cross over to airforce land you see a huge difference.

The living conditions that airmen enjoy are leaps and bounds above the conditions of the soldiers.  Their barracks are newer, bigger, their a/c functions in every building.  The gym on pope looks like a trendy health spa, it offers massages and has a protein shake center, the gyms on bragg look like prison workout yards  with rusty wieghts and busted *** equipment that never gets fixed.

Airmen enjoy considerably shorter deployments with more free leave time after returning stateside.

Their basic training is shorter than USMC or the Army and their PT test is the easiest to pass.

The Airforce simply treats its people a lot better than the Army does and is not afraid to spend money for MWR (morale, welfare, and recreation).

I wish I had gone airforce and I wish you luck.  People may think you're spoiled, but who the h**l cares?  you will be treated in a much more civil manner, enjoy a higher standard of living, and you will be judged on how well you perform your job as opposed to how fast you can run around the block on a pt test (which is great, but it doesn't mean you know a d**n thing about your MOS)

    Good Luck

  3. Well come on now, unless you're specifically a fighter or bomber pilot, you likely won't see direct combat, and even if you are a pilot who regularly engages in combat, you'll be more likely to die due to pilot error than enemy fire

  4. When I was stationed in Keflavik NAS, we got new furniture in the dorms.  Guess who bought our old furniture?  The Navy.

When I deployed to Haiti, our site was controlled by the Army.  They were there for a minimum of six months.  The AF personnel were there for 3.

    Just a thought.

  5. Because the other branches don't understand Air Force life. They look, but they don't see.

You may be stationed under austere conditions - extreme heat, extreme cold, or a barren landscape. Or a combination of the previous. You may be in a combat zone.

On the other hand, contrary to what the Army and Marines want to believe, not everybody in the Army and Marines sees combat. The Marines say that every Marine is a rifleman, well every Soldier is a rifleman also. And every Airman receives firearms familiarization training. I don't know about the Navy. But you can be trained in the use of an M16 type rifle in less than an hour, it is a very simple weapon to use.

Navy flies more than the Air Force? Yes the Navy performs all of the Naval Aviation. But they don't fly more than the Air Force, that's just a foolish thought.

  6. Nympix's answers is pretty accurate.

Air Force quality of life is better, you have less B.s to deal with and life is easier than the other services. I'm in the Air Force but I work with the all services and have been stationed on more Army posts than Air Force bases.

We usually deploy for 4 or 6 months ... the Army usually deploys for 12 or 15 months.

Air Force single E-4s (sometimes E-3s) are authorized BAH to move off base/post Army you usually have to be an E-6.

When I was stationet at Fort Gordon I had a room to myself as an E-2, in the Army Barracsks next  4 soldiers were living together in the same sized room.

Percentages of deaths from war in Iraq

    Army 72%

    Marines 22%

    Navy 4%

    Air Force 1%

  7. count youself lucky, the Irish Air Corps doesn't even have any bombers or fighters. And all the planes have propellers rather than jets.
