Question:

Why is Alice "old"?

Every time I see the name Alice mentioned on here, it always gets "That's old!", "Old lady name!", or "I don't like it, it's old".

Why do you think Alice sounds old? How many old Alice's do you actually know?

I'm just curious. My first daughter will be named Alice, I've had it decided since I was 12. :] I was just wondering why everyone thinks it's so "old".

  1. We must have similar style in names.  I like Alice, Charlotte, and Adelaide.

And some of my faves that I have picked out if/when I have girls are Eleanor (Ella is what we'd call her; Ella is my husband's grandma's name), Susan (Susie), and Sally.

Thankfully, not all girls are born to be Makaylas, McKenzies, Jaydens, and Madisons.  I think names that were popular for girls a hundred years ago sound more feminine.  Also- I think it's beneficial because how many men in 50 years are going to have bad feelings about the name Madison because it's their ex-wife's name?  A lot.  I guess the point I just tried to make there is that people won't have bad connotations with your kid based on their name-- "older" names don't usually carry as much baggage... (like: my mom in law had a mean ex husband named Bobby.  She wouldn't date a guy named Bobby after that).  I guess that's dumb and off subject, but those are my thoughts. lol.

Anyway, the name Alice is absolutely lovely.

  2. I don't know.. because it was popular a long time ago.. but I like the name Alice. It reminds me of the nice Alice in Wonderland. :)  and Disneyland.. good memories. Lol.

  3. I hope you call her Ally, because that is better. It looks like A Lice. It is not that pretty of a name, and it does sound old in a bad way. Grace is old, but beautiful. How about Allison instead. I hope she gets called Ally, I love that name. Watch the movie the Notebook, then call her simply Ally.

  4. I don't think Alice is an old name. It is a beautiful, classic name. Far prettier than Allison in my opinion.

  5. my sister's name is alice, she is 23 i think. and it is also my grandma's middle name. i personally like it alot!

  6. I think "Alice" is a very pretty and classic name myself.  I have a friend with that name.  Perhaps to "liven" it up at bit, you could play with the spelling.

    Alys

    Alyce

    or use a variation:

    Alissa

  7. Simply because it was popular many years ago - no other reason than that. If you like it - go for it. I MUCH prefer Alice to  all these trendy, made-up names that you see on here.

  8. I know two Alice's - one 17 and one 18.  I know many Elise's, Alyce's, Alisha's, etc.

  9. i know 2 and they are over 50 but who cares what others think all that matters is if your are happy with the name, people dont like the names my kids have and it doesnt matter to me bc i love them. i like alice personally and if u like it name ur baby that

  10. Everyone said Lilian and Grace were old too.  Now look at them!!  SUPER POPULAR!!!  Start the Alice trend!!  Personally, I think it is a very sweet and pretty name!!

  11. I guess people say it's old because it was popular a long time ago? I don't know any Alice that is old or even an Alice. I don't think it's "old." I actually think it's a pretty name!!

  12. I love that name. Its one of my favorites.

  13. I know many Alice's.

They are all over 50 years old. Sorry.

  14. i know no alice es

  15. It is my grandma's name (but for some reason she goes by Betty.. who knows!)  I personally like the name. It's a great alternative to Allison, and Alice could also be called Ali as a nickname

  16. My middle name is Alice =)

Of course, I was named after both my grandmothers (first and middle) so perhaps I do consider Alice an old name, as it is my late grandmother's, haha. I think Alice is considered an old name because, like names such as Barbara, Patricia, Theresa, they are names that went through a trend...were very popular names during the 50s and 60s, and even before that, and not so much anymore. Alice, like many other beautiful traditional names, has faded with time.

I am an Alice though that still lives on, and so will your daughter =)

  17. I also like that it was popular a long time ago & think that it is sweet & classic. I don't really think it sounds old. Maybe people think it sounds old because they're thinking of Alice on the Brady Bunch? It makes me think of Alice in Wonderland, which is a timeless story.. her character will always be young in our minds. Also, I know one Alice. She is probably about my age, 28. I hope this helps! ;-)

  18. I love the name alice idk why people think its OLD THEY ARE SOOOOOOOOOOOO STUPID!!!!!!!!!!
