Why is America so fat?

I want to know some facts.

I remember someone telling me a statistic about the year 2020 and how many people will be obese.

Can someone help me?

Im also trying to find how companies changed portions through out the years. Like coco cola bottle in the sixties where smaller than now and how mcdonalds doubled portion sizes throughout the years.

Is it peoples fault if they become obese or is the the fast paced lifestyle and abundance of fast food restaurants?

Do you think the future is doomed?!?!

  1. Being fat is a lifestyle choice. Period. Now that doesn't mean I don't sympathize with obese people. I was there once and am now a compettive bodybuilder. I also understand depression and emotional eating. But ultimately a person has to choose to recover from the disease of obesity and get in shape. It takes time. It takes committment. People don't like committments, its easier being lazy, making excuses or looking for quick fixes.

  2. Its people's choice when it comes to being overweight or obese no offense to them. As stated though, hectic lifestyles also promotes to weight gain and fast food. People are so busy working, by the time they get off they want to either A. go home and relax in their free time, or B. hang out with friends in their free time or even head home to take care of a family. Can't blame them of either of those can you? But they can make smarter choices when it comes to eating. Even these fast food restaurants offer some healthier foods such as salads etc. No one forces them to eat unhealthy food right?

  3. Because people are pigs.  I think lots of people have work related stress, too, because we get less vacation than British people do.  They get, like, 6 weeks but on average we get 2-4.

  4. I think it's a combination of laziness and a hectic lifestyle. Let's face it, adults work more than they ever did now. They're tired after working all day. They don't want to go home and cook some healthy meal. They're just too tired. So, we conveniently have these FAST food restaurants. People run there to get a quick meal. Also, many people really can't find the time to be exercising. Americans work more than most other countries in the world, so we're tired people. After work, most of us like to just chill out and watch some tv, or take a little nap to unwind.

Also, portion sizes are out of control! You go to a restaurant and you expect a large portion. We shouldn't do that. Most countries have a normal portion of 1 cup of something...say 1 cup of mashed potatoes. We want a big ol' mound of mashed potatoes, because that's what we've grown used to getting.

However, I think everyone SHOULD try to limit their fast food intake to at least once a week. And it IS possible to exercise while watching tv. Mini trampolines are really fun and 1/2 an hour jogging on one of those is equal to an hour on a treadmill. Plus the trampolines are small and portable.

Our hectic life styles can get in the way, but we should at least be able to prevent weight gain before it starts.

  5. You act as if people are forced to eat only McDonald's. People can eat what ever they want. Most people are to lazy and rather go on some odd diet where they only eat water for a month.People want a quick fix "how can I lost 40lbs in a week" etc. Most people don't want a long term solution ie eating healthy and working out.
