i would love to agree with your statement.. but i would be biased. because i'm an architect.

architecture, in it's simplest essence is about finding problems in existing situations.. and formulating solutions to address these problems. perhaps the fulfillment in creating something that improves the quality of living in a community, makes it a most rewarding experience for us.

i cant help not to recall:

unlike lawyers, we do not wish quarrel and dispute to practice our skills..

unlike doctors, we do not need pain, and diseases to make our bread..

we simply create something beautiful out of the ugly things around us.

Well, that's a pretty subjective question.  Architecture is certainly one of the most stressful and demanding fields - but those of us who choose to be in the profession LOVE our work.

The ability to conceive of a building that serves a particular program, or to develop a concept that is charged to answer a particular design challenge -- and then see it built is perhaps one of the most rewarding, self-fulfilling moments in the profession.  It makes the endless days (and nights) of obsession worth it.

We're not always the best paid, or the most liked participants in the construction industry - but we call many of the shots.  Why do we take such an interest in the process?  Well, after all, those buildings going up are our babies.

Very good question!

I wanted to be an Architect when I was still in high school and 13 years later I am in the field of design, but not as an Architect. I am a Piping Designer.

My thoughts on why being an Architect or any type of designer RULES.

You get to draw all day on a computer using AutoCAD or Microstation or another software program. You'll get to draw in 3D using a variety of software which is almost like playing a video game (just not a violent). You will get instant gratification after finishing a drawing and feel proud to see it on paper. Once it is being constructed you will feel a fantastic to see it standing there before you. You might get to build scale size models. You can be as creative as you want! There are designing rules though... keep that in mind. You will only have to go to school for 2 years or less before you start working (that's in Canada). You can work anywhere in the world!

Designers are some of the best paid people in the construction and engineering worlds. We are the ones who make things happen on paper so that the trades people can build it!
