  1. Uluru (or by its old name Ayres Rock) is famous on various levels:

    1. Geologically It is the world largest single rock.

    2. It is a mythological centrepoint for certain Aboriginal cultures (the "dreamtime").

    3. it is infamous as the crime scene in the Azaria Chamberlain Case (of "A dingo's got my baby" fame).

    4. it is very close to the dead centre of Australia.

    5. It is famous for the multitude of changing hues across its surface over the course of any given day.

    6. Famous in many films (like "rescuers downunder") as being a definitive scene of "the outback".

  5. I believe it is famous for its appeal to Australian and overseas travellers alike.

It is an awesome place to be at sunrise or sunset as the colours are truly amazing.  The sky, ground and Ularu (Ayers Rock) take on the most magificient hues known to man. Reds, purples, majentas.  Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.

I found it a very spiritual place which makes a lot of sense when you consider its significance to Aboriginal people.

If you visit, make sure to make time for the relatively nearby Kata Tjuta or Olgas (another drop dead gorgeous natural beauty).

  6. it changes its colour with the change in altitude of the sun with the horizon.

  7. its ULURU thank you very much
