Why is BSA used as a standard for protein content determination?

  1. Bovine serum = milk. So BSA is a protein in cow's milk, which means it is available in large quantities and therefore inexpensive. I don't remember if there are any other reasons. Maybe it can tolerate a typical range of temperatures and solutions.
