Today. He has allowed 4 ERs in 3 innings so far. He gets paid $18 million/year. Lincecum only gets paid 300K/year and Brandon Webb gets paid $4 million/ year.

2nd question: Why does Zito get paid so much and Lincecum and Webb get barely anything?

  1. It sucks and our team has to pay for giving him a huge contract.

  2. hes getting old

  3. Have you ever seen how much foul territory is in Oakland? They had better teams in Oakland when Zito was there too.Maybe his pitching coach hasn't been able to help Barry regain his old form.Zito was the top free agent, left-handed pitcher at the time. That always inflates the offers from owners.Lincecum and Webb will get their due when they test the market after their current contracts expire.

  4. He signed with the Giants not traded, The Giants gave him a big deal to win a lot of games but has done nothing. Again he gets paid alot because he signed a big deal, the same with Andruw Jones he sucks and is getting paid 18 mill

  5. i think it is because he does not have good run support from the giants.when he was with the Athletics they at least scored 4 0r 5 runs per game. The giants just doesn't have the offense for a 20 game winning pitcher. Another reason i think that Zito has lost his dominates is because he is not pitching that 12 " curveball like he ust to

  6. Please notice that he switched leagues from American to National.  He does not know his opponents as he came through the American league for years- sometimes as far back as the AA's leagues and now he maybe faced each new batters 2 or 3 times per year.  My theory is also the same  for batters in a league which is why Beltre did so poorly for so long when he jumped National League to join the Seattle Mariners.  I believe when they switch Leagues, the advantage always is against the single player as the whole opposing team can not only work as a team against that player but as a percentage only has to learn one person who is learning a whole opposing team.

2nd answer;  it has to do with past reputation as well as good agents.

  7. First of all, Zito was not traded to the Giants, he went to them as a free agent. Also Lincecum is still very young and arbitration hasn't come for him yet. Webb wasn't supposed to be as good as they expected so they took him for 4 million.
