Beijing isn't that close to the equator, but why is it so humid? I saw that it can get up to 90% humidity. How is this possible? What causes this?

Thanks!

  1. This is totally a guess ok... it's because Beijing is right next to a desert which is why they get this dust storm every year every fall.

  2. I would say its because of the large amount of smog and pollution that is emitted into the atmosphere each day. As the smog makes its way into the atmosphere, most of the heat gets trapped in the smog and cant escape, causing the weather to become more humid.

  3. Beijing is dry...its sandstorm is pretty famous, a desert is just 30km outside of it

  4. If you saw the whole fiasco with the cyclists wearing those little masks to protect their lungs, the same reason is what makes it humid. Most of the worlds items are made in China. All those factories and waste dumps pollutes the air and therefore causing the humidity to rise rapidly.

  5. its factories' emissions of many greenhouse gases. many of the worldwide products are manufactured in china, and although they've taken steps to try and reduce emission of gases, the demand for manufactured goods worldwide are usually so high that the factories have problems in meeting targets. i'd say they dont' have much choice. but the beijing summer has always been rather hot, according to my friends living in beijing.
