"unwearable jerseys bring about an overtly negative reaction. Some self explanatory examples from the list—Bill Buckner, Michael Vick, Jose Canseco, and, of course, Mr. O.J. Simpson"

  1. I am a Yankee fan & was a big fan of Raphael Palmiero & I have a jersey of his while he played for the Orioles & haven't worn it since. I could see why nobody would wear a OJ Simpson or Michael Vick jersey but Buckner was a good player despite that error of his in the 1986 World Series

  2. Because SAWX fans blame Bill Buckner for losing the 86 World Series to the Mets. A ground ball went through his legs, which would have likely ended the inning, the game, and would have clinched the World Series for the Red Sox. Instead the Mets came back won the game, and the World Series.

It's just the SAWX fans excuse for choking though. The SAWX were up 3 games to 2 during the infamous "Game 6" and went on to lose the next game of the World Series too, in which Buckner commited no errors.

Other than that moment--which was a team collapse NOT completely Buckner's fault--Billy Buck was a perennial All Star and had over 2700 hits by the time of his retirement.

Its wrong to put him into the same group as Michael Vick, Jose Canseco and OJ. Those guys are criminals. Buckner is not. SAWX fans have since forgiven and embraced Buckner for the great ball player he was, and he threw out the first pitch at the Tigers game earlier this year.

And why hasnt Asante Samuel received any hate for this little folly?

  3. I dont know how you can associate buckner with those names.  All of those guys tainted their names for their actions off the field, including murder(alleged), dog fighting and steroids.  Sox fans are terrible for blackballing buckner the way they did.  He put his *** on the line for their team every time he went out on that field.  Its bullcrap that after the sox win the series that everyone accepts him now.  No one talks that he was an all star, had 2700+ hits in the mlb, and twice while with the Red sox led the league in most ab per strikeout.  He also was a batting champ in his career.  I would wear his jersey if i were a sox fan and i think it is very stupid that he would be considered an unwearable jersey for something he did on the field.

  4. bill buckner was a great hitter with the cubs .its too bad he will be rembered for one horrible play even though the sox should have put in a defensive sub for him in the later innings

  5. What he did against the Mets, the ball went right threw his legs and the Sox lost. He blew the World Series.

  6. i could see it being unwearable maybe 5 years ago (unless you are anti red sox) but now, im not sure. the others i understand though
