  1. It's not. SONY was just smart (dumb) enough to take a HUGE risk and putting them in all PS3's. There were a lot more PS3's in homes than HD-DVD players. Studios only want your money. They can care less about the format.

  2. plain and simple they were equal but hd dvd had better features and zone free discs. The sound is not superior on blu I don't know where these idiots get their info...I am still happy with my purchase! for 129.00 i got a player....for another 200 I have a 12 disc library. that by itself is as much a sa blu ray player that isnt a ps3! Hd upconvert is better too soo all in all I have a great hd player with a better upconvert for alot less money!

  3. In terms of picture quality they are pretty much the same, but Blu-Ray offers better sound quality.

It also has discs with larger capacity, 25GB & 50GB discs vs HD-DVD's 15GB & 30GB. (this is a big issues more with computer drives)

It gained the support of studios who prefer Blu because of its future possibilities, where as HD-DVD was pretty much finalized with no room for improvement.

PS3 is able to play Blu-Ray putting 3.25 million players in households across America.

After studios showed overwhelming support for Blu-Ray, and the large number of players in homes thanks to PS3 retailers really had no choice but follow and support Blu-Ray.

  4. Plainly, space.  It allowed for lossless or HD sound.   Whereas HD-DVD discs had to limit just to HD picture.

Regardless of HD-DVD fanboys crying right now, HD-DVD was never better and buyouts occurred on both sides firstly with the HD-DVD camp.

You can't argue with advancing technology and that technology will always want the larger storage of space.  Should there ever be a media that exceeds Blu, it will take over, but I don't know if that's possible to produce.

HD downloads may one day come about, but it is in a far far future and not just around the corner.  Blu will rule for a decade or two.

  5. its not. people that support Blu-Ray are complete idiots.

they supported pay offs and sony paid off everyone.

    SAD .

the consumer was raped and the morons who support BR are too dumb to understand how they were probed.

  6. It's not. It depends on what feature was important for you. Blu-Ray won the war thanks to their marketing strategy.  Everybody was thinking Sony was crazy including a Blu-Ray player in the PS3, increasing the cost while there is still no blu-ray games around; but that strategy helped them win the bigger price putting more than 3 million additional BR players in the market.

Blu-Ray has a higher capacity (only important for backup), and, at least in theory, sound (that nobody really can use because it requires a newer compatible receiver)

HD-DVD had similar video quality, good audio quality (5.1 or 7.1 digital), and one much better feature: It didn't have zones.

Zone encryption was invented to rip off consumers around the world. It didn't stop p****y, It didn't work with regular DVDs, and it won't work with Blu-Ray, but it is insulting that they are still trying.

  7. Is not but it won the war, so go BR as HD is officially dead...
