Why is Brett Favre's last name pronounced "farv"?

I don't expect most people be able to answer, but some might. Is it an individual choice on his part, a quirk of his ancestral language, or a mistake that stuck? If a mistake, on whose part?

  1. Because its just the way it is. How do you actually expect people to answer this question?

    EDIT* no. i think its just the way its sounded. I think it has always been like that. his dad's last name was pernounced the same way and his moms so its not brett that chose it to sound like that.

  4. you're right, it should be pronounced favour. there's no way you can say it that way unless it's spelled that way.

  5. You can pronounce your name any way you choose.  My family is very large and different branches of our family pronounce our name three distinctly different ways.  That's their right to exercise, and ours to honor.  We do.
