Question:

Why is Cable fitting melting twice in 2mos & no electricity is running in cable.?

Cable runs from telephone pole to house, along same path as electric line, but no touching of lines.

2 months ago fitting connecting cable to telephone pole, & fitting connecting cable to house was melted.

Today fitting connecting cable to house was melted.

Cable went out this morning between 7 a.m. & 8 a.m. No lightening strike or pop or nothing. (Only oddity was momentary blink of dining room light at about 7:20, if this matters, but the coffee maker didn't go off). There were no lightening storms this morning, & cable was working when I awoke at 7 a.m.

Please do you know how or why the cable fitting has melted in two months time, or how can I find out why this problem has happened twice in a short time.

Thank You,

Harry Gams

  1. Possible there is an overload. But that has to be measured. Did you buy new electricity consuming things that you have connected to an outlet? What makes me suspicious is the mentioning of the coffee maker that was connected. What else was consuming electricity at the same time. How are your circuit breakers? I should expect that the breakers should trip before the cable fittings would melt. I suppose you do not have much knowledge about electrical installations and in that case go for a licensed electrician. It is too dangerous and can be too expensive to mess with the electrical system. And do not wait with getting a good answer to your problem.

  2. You may have a grounding issue in the house where power is leaking through the ground wire and hitting the ground on the cable wire try disconnecting the ground off the cable splitter outside for a awhile and see if it happens again

  3. i think to much power running through the wires all at once.call your cable company explain the situation and they can change the connectors to stronger ones they must of put cheap connectors on the ends of your cable wires for this to be happening.some cable guys use the more expensive ones some cable guys use the cheapies.depends who you get for an installer.

  4. It sounds like there may be a grounding or neutral problem with your incoming electric service.  I would call your electric provider and have them come out and check those connections.
