  1. I am a Canadain so I do have a natural bias.  I did spend a couple years living in Minnesota and I do admit I loved it there.

Here are the main points why I do beleive Canada has it better.

First would be unemployement.   For the gentleman above who stated that is Canada ha a higher unemployment rate that is not the case at all.  IN the USA unemployment is counted by those actively seeking benefits wheas the Canadian unemployment rate is the result of a yearly census.  So although the sample may seem larger it is becuase Canada includes those not obtaining unemployment benefits.

Canada is cleaner, we have more space, fewer people.  This equates to more outdoor space to enjoy.  More parks, more greenery, more backyards.

We have health care, not sick care.   I am an asthmatic, I actually had a heck of a time finding insurance in my short time in the states and even then it did exclude any illness as a result of asthma or any heart problems I may enocuter as inhaled steroids (the only treatment for asthma) can lead to an enlarged heart.  SO effectively my $360/ mo really only covered non life threatening illness.  I am sure that I am not alone is stating that health care run by companies whose only interest is in making money is going to be flawed and is not going to have a patient focus.

Here in Canada I enjoy full coverage, I carry supplemental insurance which costs me $36/mo so I have full dental, prescription drug, extended hospital, chiropractic, optical, death and dismemberment and alternative medicine coverage.   I have never once waited more than an hour or so for medical treatment, I have not waiting at all in cases that were life threatening.  As as result of my Canadian health care I am likely to live two years longer and my children are more likely to survive infancy.   That alone should speak to the merits of the Canadian health care system.

CAnada has a substantially lower instance of violent crime.

The average Canadian has more savings, retires younger and will enjoy a longer duration of consistent employment.

So to sum it all up. Being a Canadian means I will live longer and have greater job security.   I will probably retire younger and have the savings to do so.  Upon this time I can enjoy some of the phenomenal and pristine outdoor spaces we work so hard to maintain and protect.  It is less likely that even living in a not so great neighborhood of Canada's largest city I am not going to be a victim of violent crime.

  2. It's not. Not exactly sure why everyone thinks so. Crappy health care. Higher taxes. Higher unemployment.
