Why is Canadian beer stronger than American Beer?

Being a Canadian and going from one beer to the other ( no , not one after the other ) there is definitely a difference . It tastes more watered down . I hear it alot from the many Americans that visit up here as well . It may say the same on the can , but somethings different .

Because canadians are alcoholics and need more powerful beers to get drunk.And we do all their fighting for them.

its not necessarily true.. if you look at comparable beers they are exactly the same... labatt, molson, moosehead.... all around 5 percent..

compared to coors,bud,miller etc.. all around 5 percent

alexander keiths india pale ale is lower in alcohol then most american IPA...

if your talking craft or micro brews they are about the same alcohol content as american beers...

canadian beers are pritty comprable..

Watery, crappy mass-produced beer like Miller, Coors, etc. is usually around the 5% abv (alcohol by volume) mark. Unfortunately, These breweries make up most of the sales of beer in the US, and the US often gets the reputation for having crappy beer. But there are tons of American craft brewers producing great, higher-alcohol (and high-quality) styles such as Barleywines, Imperial Stouts, Strong Belgian Ales, etc. Some of these American brews average around 9% abv or higher.

Dogfish Head out of Rehoboth, Delaware produces their 120 Minute IPA which tops out at 21% abv, and their World Wide Stout is 18% abv. Other brewers such as Weyerbacher, Bell's, Founders, Rogue, Stone, and Victory (among many others) are all producing great higher-gravity brews.

Tax laws in the US favor somewhat weaker beer;  the federal tax rate on higher alcohol level brews makes it more profitable to brew weaker beer.

Because american breweries have ditched traditional methods of brewing and have watered down beer. they are only intrested in selling alot of low quality, cheap beer to make a little profit. they dont care at all about quality.
