  1. Despite your request for "No biased answers, please." - it is truly humorous to see all the bias that always gets spewed out whenever this question gets asked here. Che Guevara is still the man the Americans love to hate - even 41 years after his death!

Che was a Latin American Socialist revolutionary - this may not sum up everything about the man and why he is and was idolized by millions - but it does tell you why others are so biased against the man. He fought to depose the corrupt dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, another one of the many "Friendly Dictators" the U.S. helped maintain power.

In my opinion that was - and still is - a very honourable thing to do. Another reason why some feel "free" to spout their bias is that they never lived under a corrupt dictatorship in an underdeveloped country.

  2. Because they do not know how evil he really was.

  3. He was a doctor, he helped the Cuban people overthrow a corrupt stooge of the American Mafia, Batista and he was a (rather poor) political writer.

But the two things that elevate him as a icon are the iconic image of him taken in 1960 by Alberto Korda; and the fact that he was around at the same time as the Vietnam war - so loads of young people looked up to him because they felt he represented anti-Americanism and anti-war ideals.

  4. He was anti-American, he looked cool, and he did actually walk his talk by giving up a comfortable life and fighting in the jungle.

This cult has even gone as far as the iranians saying how religious he was.  Guevara's daughter, when asked to confirm this in Teheran, denied it, to her credit, and was quickly hustled out of the country.

  5. Not much.

Some people think violence, murder, overthrowing governments (okay, they were corrupt, but he wasn't?) is to be idolized.

Those who idolize him don't know all the facts.

No disrespect intended. We're all entitled to our opinions in this Country. For some reason Che has become "Hot" of late. I did think him "Hot" when Antonio Bandares played him in Evita! : ) !!
