Why is Cheer leading not considered a sport?

Why do people often make rude comments about cheer leading isn't a sport?

Cheer leading is a sport just like basketball football hockey etc.

Cheerleaders work hard in what they do. You might think its not a sport because at school they cheer and they don't have a componite to work against.

That's where people are wrong. They do. In competitive cheer leading they have over hundreds maybe even thousand components working for the same title.

They work on dances, steps, new cheers and building muscle to lift people or muscle for flips. They might seem all glamorous and stuck up well theyre not. Its part of what the coaches make them do, its not bad they just have to look clean, presentable, hair pulled back.

Others ask why do they wear so much makeup? they look like whores.

Wow some people out there are dumb. They only wear it because of the lights. They looked washed out with all the lights on them.

Therfore they wear alot of makeup.

Cheerleaders are not b*****s either. Maybe some of them but not because of cheer leading or popularity because, thats just how they are. get use to it.

Yes this wasn't a question. I just want to hear your thoughts on why cheerleading is not a sport or how it is a sport.

Thanks for reading much appreciated. (=

  1. I agree. (It's on ESPN isn't it?)

Our high school competes at out of stat competitions, if we didnt compete, i wouldnt stay on the team. Our coaches have strict rules, if we are in our uniform, we aren't allowed to hug/kiss boyfriends, curse, drink, smoke, etc. At competitions and games our hair has to all look uniform. Our uniforms have to be clean and we have to smile all the time. We leave our drama outside of the team, yes, we are b*****s. ALL OF US GIRLS CAN BE b*****s. We are nasty, when two girls get in an arguement all h**l breaks loose. We tear eachother apart, it isn't just cheerleaders.

We work hard to get where and what we want, without our team, forget it.

  2. I think the answer is pretty clear.

    Just my opinion.

ALthough Cheerleading has changed over the years and now they have competitions in which being athletic is very important, it is till not a sport.

In most schools (not all) it is just another chick to put down other students.

  3. It is not considered a sport because of its origins. In the earlies, cheerleaders used to be a group of males and females who wern't part of the team playing on the side encouraging their teamates and getting the crowd to cheer loulder. They led they crowd to cheer, hence the name cheer leaders. After time, they began to do stunts to get the crowd to applaude them so when the playing team heard them, they would think that they were getting cheered. And after more time the became an entirely different group of people with different uniforms and names. I agree when you say that they train and blah, blah blah, but still some people just see cheerleading as only supporters, which is what they are suposed to be. Have ever seen the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders? Just had to mention them. Hoped I hepled. Just try to see it from the others eyes, then you'll understand both sides.

  4. shut up...

  5. because it isn't. its running around from formation to formation, doing something thats supposed to be dancing and bad tumbling.

  6. First off cometitive cheering isn't real cheerleading and should be renamed tumble squad or something like that because they arn't exactly leading a crowed to get fired up to inspire a team to win.  normal tradition cheerleading is the real thing and is a physical activity but not a sport because it cannot stand on it's own.  But both are wonderful activities and are physically demanding.  Both take a lot of hard work and dedication.

  7. i totally agree with you! in my opinion i think that cheerleading is a sport! i, myself do competitive dance & many people think that what i do is not a sport, which in reality, it is! the dictionary definition of a sport is: an active diversion (cheerleading & dance are active activities) requiring physical exertion (u do use energy in cheerleading in dance) and competition (competitive cheerleading & dance). those people that claim that they r not sports, have never been to a practice or even seen one. they know nothing about the two activities & so they can not fully understand them! also, us dancers also have to wear lots of makeup! we need to have stage makeup so that we do not appear washed out! even though im not the biggest fan of layers of foundation, thick eyeliner, three different kinds of eyeshadow, deep red blush, red red RED lipstick, & fake eyelashes, we have to do it when we perform! & people are nice or mean depending on the way they were brought up, whatever sport they do does not contribute to that! i know other people may disagree with everything i say, but keep in mind that i am entitled to my own opinions & this is one opinion that i fully support!
