Why do so many men choose to pretend this isn't happening? How can this problem be dealt with if they refuse to acknowledge its existence?

look, YES, most PEDOPHILES are male. child s*x tourism is MOSTLY  a male phenomena, but not exclusively. i've read about female child s*x tourism.

but as i stated before, pedophilia is not the norm. most men don't have those desires. hebophilia, on the other hand is far more common and i'd say just as common for women as for men, if not more common. and it is much easier for women to successfully get a boy to consent and to get away with it, making it a bigger problem.

but you did not answer my question yet... if you are a person who believes that hebophila is ok, that there is nothing wrong with a thirtysomething woman having s*x with a 15 year old boy, then nothing you say can be taken seriously. so, are you?

I don't know about s*x tourism, but plenty of women enjoy p**n and a few have been convicted on child p**n charges. Men just have a higher s*x drive than women and seem more apt to be driven to criminal behaviour for sexual thrills. But you can't say it is only men. Like everything, there's always more than a few exceptions.

well strangly, women have been found to use child p**n and use s*x toruism but funnily they are far less likely to be chraged and convicted (or found). also if you see or listen to what single women do on holiday they will often pick up younger men. but moving on. why do you like to pretend it isnt happening? well because we all get stigmitised by it (as your doing), and how can it be dealt with? let me propose something, a male relation of yours (or female) comes to you and tell you their attracted to pre pubesent girls, whats your reaction? do you sit down help them through it, no you run screaming. these people need help not judgment (yes they deserve punishment if they commit a crime). the reason they need help, sexual attraction is hard wired in the brain, so these people are attracted to children in the same way as hetros and homos are attracted to whatever people of the s*x.

I think that when they say "all men", they mean that all men are POTENTIAL suspects, not that all men are actually likely to be into child p**n.

But anyways, I've heard it brought up before that just about 99% of sexual perverts are men. I have no real idea of why this is. But my only guess is that perhaps it is because men are so much more sexually motivated than women (regardless of what people try to claim- often right here on Yahoo Answers). Since men are so much more sexual than women, there is a much greater chance of sexual perversion.  But who knows if that's really the cause.

i would imagine some women are involved - backing their man, not reporting him, perhaps taking part, but yes, overwhelmingly s*x tourism is for males.

note too, the UN Peacekeepers have had trouble over the years with sexual scandals - exchanging s*x for food, visiting brothels, raping babies/children, etc.....

I think some men are simply defensive and cannot stand to think men are not 'honorable'.  i'm not sure but i do know there are plenty of defensive males out there. we need to learn why they are so defensive and what can be done to make them our allies.  there are some people who are advoctating forgiveness and compassion and who will not call men who commit horrendous crimes 'monsters'.... perhaps this approach will work???

Child s3x tourism is an exclusively male phenomenon for the same reason paedophilia is more common among men than women: men use s3x to gain a sense of power and control in their lives, and because they are socially trained to aspire to s3x with someone smaller, younger and softer ~ it's an easy leap for someone whose 'desire' has been perverted by whatever experiences they have had, to focus on children, instead of adults.

There is reams of literature on this stuff, a LOT of it written by men (many of them non-feminist men, too), exploring this darker side of male s3xuality.

It's patently obvious that MOST men are not paedophiles, just as MOST men are not child s3x tourists, but if you were a profiler you would start with the single descriptor 'male', because these behaviours are irrefutably overwhelmingly acted out by males.

What is most disturbing about the responses to this question (and I did say yesterday that it wouldn't last, didn't I), is the frantic effort some of these apologists for this behaviour are putting into it.

If they put even a tiny percentage of this effort into working towards making the changes in men's behaviours that are needed ~ including confronting these behaviours instead of excusing them, much more could be done to help discover the causes and 'cures' for people who take satisfaction from hurting little children in a most premeditated and debased way.

How can decent men stand to have their normal, healthy s3xuality used as an excuses for paedophiles and child s3x tourists?

If I, as a woman, said 'oh it's natural for men to lust after kids', I would be (rightly) criticised, but when facts (which can be easily checked with reference to any law enforcement agency in the world) are presented, numerous men say just that as an 'excuse' for these creeps!

Really, if I was a decent, law abiding, 'normal' man, I would hate to have my s3xuality and its expression used to enable these type of crimes to continue.

That bothers me, a lot.

If the statistically few women who are involved in these type of crimes, in any way, are using female s3xuality as an 'excuse' for their behaviour, I'd like to go on record right now as saying I do not believe it is 'natural' to be unable to control inappropriate s3xual behaviour.

Lots of men DO acknowledge its existence.

It's definitely pretty much a male phenomenon. Why they do it in this country I don't know. Brain injuries, mental illness perhaps?

In Africa men rape babies it as they think it'll cure AIDS, as well as for other reasons.

I suspect that many of your responders didn't understand what you are asking.  

Of course most men aren't into child p**n (that's a fact), but all of the individuals who were rounded up in the swoop you speak of were men (that's a fact, too).

I also believe that the women who are involved with child p**n do it for the money (drugs), not sexual gratification.  This doesn't excuse them.

I've never met any men who deny that this happens, although the bunch here keep bleating that the child p**n and the child s*x tourism businesses are participated in equally by men and women.  In the US, the women who have been convicted so far of committing s*x acts with a minor have chosen teen boys as their victims, not young children.
