I heard they take kids away from their families at the age of 3 and put them in elite and very difficult training programs.

What's with the obsession?

  1. They MUST show the world that "Their Way" of doing things IS the best.....NOT western capitalism and its ways......

  2. As a nation they are historically perfectionists.

  3. If i was taken at 3 and got a gold medal, i would be fine. i get to gloat in front of sore losers like you

  4. well...like most countries they want to be the best. i believe china has never led in the medal race, and they want the world to know that theyre catching up and are a force to be wreckoned with.

  5. i actually admire that they would do anything for their goal. Not in the best ways but I still show some respect.

    Go Team USA!

  6. Good question. I was born an raised in Taiwan, (even though I have never been for or against China) and I feel that Chinese want to prove something to the world.

Before Republic of China was born (the country that previously held the land of China before PRC), the last dynasty was continuously humiliated by foreign powers (it was their own faults, too). With ROC, not much had changed. So finally after Mao had taken power, he really convinced people about restoring the Chinese pride. Many years later, China's holding the same value and want to compete against the world on almost everything. Olympics was an ultimate showdown in sports world, so of course they want to do their best.

Obsessed? Yeah, you can say that, but they get it done though.

  7. hmmm the will to succeed as a coming out party for the world to see. coming out party as in biggest emerging economy and nation all over all.

p.s. not only did the hippies lose in getting the olympics out of china (protests in london and san francicsco) but the chinese are owning the brits and atleast currently beating the americans. poor hippies

    go usa!

  8. You heard, you heard....DUH!!! You get easily taken by your media propaganda. It's not that bad as what your media puts it. They don't tell you the whole story which is just same as lying (propaganda).

Most famous athletes start at age of 3 bigot!!!

How many countries do you know have risen to power without colonizing other country as quick and as effective as China?

  9. Kids AREN'T taken away by government officials, they are either discovered in school and sent to sports programs by their parents at an early age, or volunteer to play for their municipal, provincial or national team if they are confident enough about themselves when they get older.

It's true the Commies used to force people into professions they didn't like, but nowadays government is pretty much out of the way when it comes to individuals' career decisions.

Oh, also which country is not obsessed with winning gold? You wouldn't even post this question if you aren't obsessed with seeing the US taking away all the gold medals.

    Go Canada Go!!

  10. The people of China have no choice.  The government decides what the people will do in China.  This is the only olympics that china has a chance at seriously contending with the US in medals.

The chinese government is obsessed with beating the US to show that their form of government is better than the US.  Human rights abuses, religious intolerence, etc.. so many things to proud of as well.

  11. It's called competition, desire, and ambitious. Do you even know what the Olympics is about? This is a retarded question, every country wants the Gold.

  12. Well, I don't think its really just China. Every country's ultimate goal (in the Olympics) is to win the gold medal. An athlete doesn't belong in the Olympics if they don't want gold. Plus, this year China is the host, so they want to put on a good show for the Chinese people. Just like if the Olympics were held in the U.S., it would be embarrassing if we didn't win a gold medal in sports such as basketball, swimming, and boxing. As for the taking away kids part, I never heard about that, but I would think that they don't take them away, the parents just send them to train.
