there are several reasons why china is the most heavily populated country in the world, but the main reason is that in chinese history, men have been considered more important than women. so if a couple married and had a girl, they would try again until they had a boy. a lot of girls were put up for adoption this way, and until recently people outside china were not allowed to adopt chinese babies. this boom in population has cause china to enforce a law allowing each couple to have only one child, to help control the ever-growing population.
