Canada has only 7 medals I think right now. Is it because they're putting money towards Van 2010? Has China put all their money towards Beijing 2008?

  1. Winning medals comes from the amount of resources that are available in a country.  Be it people resources or financial resources, the amount spent can increase the chances of achieving Olympic medals.

The Chinese has more population (1.3 billion) to choose from and the families are more than willing to have their child enter programs relating to the Olympics.  The government will take care of medal winners for the rest of their lives and also this year, there is a prize of 1 million yuan per gold medal.  With so many people, there is a greater chance to find natural talent.

The government is also spending more money on foreign coaches, for example swimming and fencing, some sports that China never won medals in.  They also spent much money on training facilities.

The Chinese and Americans has the most atheletes participating in the Olympics.  This also increases both countries' chances of winning medals.

  2. its because they are in their home country, in previous times they would not have been able to afford to send loads of athletes out to the other countries so they would not have as many comppeting. not only that but when the olympics comes to your home country your going to push yourself harder as you know the rewards are greater in front of your home crowd.

  3. China have a huge population and have dedicated the last 8 years to getting the results they are getting now.  They have pumped $42 billion into these games so yes they would be spending a lot of $'s on the athletes too.  They also have imported superstars from other countries.  Eg Tom Maher from Australia coaching the Basketball

  4. 1.3 billion potential athletes and they obviously have trained like never before to not look bad on their home turf.

  5. 1) Huge population (1/6 of the world)

    2) More athletes entered than any other country

    3) Host nation

    4) More motivation to achieve in front of home crowd

    5) Massive investment into games

  6. China was second place in the Athens game also. They have always been good.

  7. Judging in gymnastics has been in the Chinese favor this whole time - Deductions that should be made against the Chinese are NOT being made.

    Other than that they're good.

at diving they're small so they can get in without hardly a splash.

Running they're not so good at because they're small - their one runner had an injury

I'm not sure where the rest of the medals are coming from..

  8. there just good lol but i think their cheri picking since they have tons more gold than solver and bronze

regardless they're doing great this year at the olympics

  9. Okay,

China has always been good at the Olympics because the Chinese government chooses allot of their athletes at age 3! They take them away from their families and train them solely to became Olympians.  Family's are okay with this because I think they get some kind of benefit from the government.

I don't know that this is true for all Chinese athletes, but I know it's true for gymnast Cheng Fei.  According to the American media, she repeatedly was denied coming home from her family.  That's really sad.

To me, the question should be why doesn't China win all the medals?

  10. Canada doesn't spend money on sports unless they have to, and yes I believe they are gearing up for 2010, We usually do much better at the winter olympics than summer, but it is sad, we are a rich intelligent country, with huge potential,  but we don't support the athletes like we should. Our government it so pathetic that way.

  11. First off Idon'tt agree that the Olympics should  have been in China .I just feel there  is bias  when it comes   American Gymnastics and other sports in  the Olympics. So obviouse that some of  the Chinese girls  where not of age .

  12. The Chinese are on Crack!!!
