Whilst driving through Devon the other day we passed through two Chittlehamptons and they are only about eight miles apart then to make matters worse between them is Chittlehamholt,we thought we were going round in ever decreasing circles.Any one out there know why ?

  1. There are also two places called Woolfardisworthy (you wouldn't have thought that was a name that could be made up twice!), but one of them is pronounced Woolsery.

  2. Good thing that they are so close together then, in case you go to the wrong one!

My friend went to Chobham recently, then found out that she should have gone to Cobham, which are also conveniently close to one another.

And don't confuse Yelverton with Yeovilton!
